I am having some furniture delivered today, and I have been wondering whether it is expected that I tip the deliverymen.

I am disinclined to do so because I am already paying $40 for the furniture to be delivered here and that should adequately compensate them.

Is this a tipping situation or not?

I would tip them only if they had done something above & beyond. Like moving a gun safe into the basement to make room for your new furniture.

The $40 isn't compensating the delivery drivers, they most likely get paid per hour.Personally,I would buy them lunch. Then again,I get tips sometimes,so I like to spread the good karma

ETA: Is "disinclined " really a word ?

I would give each guy a ten as well.  Tell to have a burger and a beer on me.

As stated you would be surprised how the attitude changes and everyone is smiling.

I wouldn't tip them, but out of general hospitality, offer them a beer.

Depends, are they just delivering, or are they also moving everything inside where you want it? If there's two or three guys, $40 after the business gets it first doesn't give them much. $5 a piece could be warranted.
