So I am in need of new tires for my 04 F350. I am looking for something between an All Terrain and Mud Terrain tire, but still has decent traction in the snow. I live in PA.
I was going to go with the Dick Cepek FCII's until I started reading reviews and found out that the compound gets harder ans then pretty much sucks in the snow and ice. Looking for recommendations Tire size is going to be 315 75R 16 that would be a 35 12.5R 16 for us non metric people. Thanks |

BFG A/Ts. I've tried all the others, and came back. There is none better. Ops I also find myself coming back to the BFG AT's. They've been around for a long time for good reason; they do well off road in all but the worst mud, they're very durable and have a very tough carcass, they typically wear very well, and do great in the snow. I'm am considering trying the GY Duratrac's next time though for better mud traction and the option of using studs. I am a little hesitant though because most other Goodyear tires I've used in the past were absolute garbage. |

Got a little over 50,000 miles out of the set on my Dodge 2500, could have gotten a little more out of them if I was more faithful about rotating them, getting ready to get another set. They do well in the snow and are ok in the mud (not as good as a M/T but good for an A/T tire). |

I think I'm the only one that does not like Goodyear Duratracs. I have had balance issues since day one with them. In fact, I had to have one replaced under warranty for being so out of balance. I also find that they chunk out pretty easily on rough gravel. They are on my work truck but I have BFG MT tires on my personal truck. I've never had any issues with the BFG's and they go through snow amazingly well.
I'd recommend getting some BFG A/T's or M/T's. |

BFG A/Ts are pretty good traction wise, however not that PA gets that cold but when I lived in AK I found as did many others the inner liner of any BFG light truck tire will fall apart and they will start loosing air. Further for all their claims of toughness I've seen more BFG sidewalls fail than any other, but none of those sidewalls were the current design. Trail T/As were phenomenal on ice and snow, not impressive at all in mud, and running highways speeds with heavy loads and or a trailer they were basically bald by 20,000mi. The GY Duratrac also did very well on ice and snow, and was not as loud as I expected but not silent either, haven't done allot of heavy off-roading with them, they self clean ok but not as well as a full on mudder, 3 yrs and 40,000mi on them and they're probably down to about 40% tread, zero punctures to date and normally I usually average about 1 a year with where I drive, chances are I'll buy them again. The Cooper S/T is probably one of the best all around traction tires that I've seen, amazing in snow, decent on ice, and deceptively good in mud, however running the highway they were basically done by 20,000mi, they also now have the maxx which looks to make a good thing better as far as traction is concerned.
ETA the Dura-tracs did take allot of weight to balance, I've had two shops try and neither has succeeded in smoothing them totally, they're pretty obnoxious from 60-65 which is unfortunately the speed traffic really like to go around here. |

Mine wore fast, got noisy, went out of balance regularly, and had weak sidewalls. Back to BFG. I now have them on three trucks, and I've tried almost everything else. |

Really quite, they are a hybrid between an AT and a MT. Great in snow, never tried in mud too much. Sure my truck would sink anyway.

| I have been thinking that I will go with the Duratracs, but I am gonna look at the coopers as well. From what i read the size Duratracs I am looking for comes as a 3 ply sidewall, and apparently they are more well balanced than previous variations. Have any of you guys used a product called EQUAL is a granulated balancing substance that you put inside your tire. It continually balances as you are driving, I used on on a set of Mickey Thompson M/T's and it worked great. |

I got mine at http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do Cooper is offering $75 visa card and DTD is offering a $30 card on a purchase of 4 tires. I got $100 from them on labor day weekend and 75 from cooper. |
