Im looking to pick up some tires for a 2004 dodge ram. Should I go with 17" with 245/65 or get the stock 20"s  mind you. I will eventually be throwing bigger tires on with better off road capabilities. They both will cost around the same btw.

I'm running the H2 Hummer 17" wheels and 315/17 Goodrich tires on mine. 3rd set of tires just mounted, I get about 60K out of a set.
And I really like Balance Beads in the tires. A lot.

Mines an 8 lug '97 2500 4WD btw.

If your going to offroad it get the 17's.  I'm not a fan at all of these big ass wheels they are putting on trucks nowadays.

I like the 315/70R17's I have on my truck. Good wheel to tire ratio. 20's don't look bad on the Ram, but just keep in mind that your cost per tire is going to go up significantly with 20's, versus 17's.

My 09 Ram has 20's but I'll be getting some cheap ass steel 17's to put the snow tires on. They don't make very many good off road/snow tires in 20's and what they do make are expensive.

Go 17's

I have yet to see a full size truck running 20's that isn't anything but a mall-crawler........

While I'd agree for the most part, many sizes in 44+ and most popular military tires are only available on 20" wheels.

"full size truck" as in GM/Ford/Dodge - not military tires on a off-road toy.

Go 17's
I got my aluminum Hummer wheels as new take-offs from the dealer for $25/each.  The mounted Goodrich's were another $50/each.

I got the 17's.  They are a smaller tire though. Which is going to bug me until i either get the 285/70 or 315's . I beleive its 245/60. On the smaller side..

If you have a GPS, or access to a GPS:

Check your GPS speed compared to your speedometer read-out.  My 315s put my actual speed at several mph faster than indicated compared to the stockers.  I only mention it because sometimes I forget, and I'm just trying to be a gentle reminder.  The PoPo don't mind reminding you in a more costly manner.
