I bought a truck off eBay against my own better judgment. It’s an ex-military vehicle (M-series just released from service, an 1985 CUCV to be exact) and no title was issued. It was sold at auction and I bought it from a ‘dealer’ in another state.
I took the bill of sale and the copy of Government of Certificate To Obtain Title but the DMV refused because the ‘dealer’ had signed it as the buyer from auction. After a lot of emails and phone calls he took back the paperwork to title it in his name and ‘will send the title.’ I don’t think that is going to happen. I initially had a loan but paid it off (to lower my over-all debt stature), so I can get a letter of Lien Release from the bank. Other than that, a print of the email from eBay, and a color copy of the Gov certificate I have no proof of ownership. What are my options? -Sue the guy -Go with the DMV suggestion and get a Court Order to apply for ownership -Try one of those titling services that ‘buys’ your car, titles it and ‘sells’ it back to you (a year of manufacture restriction may apply) -Take it to my mom’s farm and use it as a farm truck or part it out? Any ideas? |
