Knight and Day and Mission Impossible 2 are the first to come to mind for me, bot were absurd parodies or themselves.
I've heard the later Mission Impossible sequels were actually pretty good, but the second movie was enough to stop me watching. |

He is an astonishingly gifted and dedicated actor with perhaps the best work ethic in Hollywood. More, he helps everyone working with him achieve their best as well. Count how many of his co-stars won Oscars while working with him. His religion is crazy, every religion is crazy, but that's about the worst thing anyone can say about him.

If you're saying it sucked because it was rebellious hippy bullshit, then I agree. But, Tom Cruise WAS Ron Kovic in that movie. It wasn't a shitty movie because of Tom Cruise. I read that Cruise lived in a wheelchair 24/7 for an entire year to prepare for that role. Apparently he also owns a period correct P-51 Mustang and flies it on a regular basis. He could have skipped it and gotten paid the same, but he did it anyway. http://youtu.be/H8-P8sJNHk0 View Quote He also gained more real life shooting skills making that movie than most here possess to begin with. I believe he also has a good insight into defending himself bare handed too. A friend of mine worked with him on hand to hand and striking techniques , said he got good , powerful and fast as hell. |

Nowhere near great nor even good, but I thought it was mindless fun. Cruise did a good job with what he had to work with in MI2, but John Woo gave him crap to work with. |

When Tom Cruise was practicing for the Last Samurai: http://photogallery.indiatimes.com/celebs/international/tom-cruise/movie-stills/the-last-samurai/photo/19838227/A-still-of-Tom-Cruise-from-the-film-The-Last-Samurai-.jpg This was practice off set like in a dojo...They say his forearms got so big that he couldn't fit his arms through his suit jackets/sport coats. I particularly like watching his movies and think to myself what the directors had to put up with to film the right camera angles to make him "look the character". I do realize he is height challenged.....but sometimes it's plain entertaining/ interesting.
As far his acting..mediocre at best. He is good on film because of directors, supporting cast, and screen play/ storyline. |

Here is something you should know about every character that Tom Cruise plays. His character is the best. The best at everything. No incompetencies, no questions, no self-doubt. He is always the best. I blame Scientology. how many tom cruise movies have you actually seen? almost every movie he makes is about 1: overcoming self-doubt, 2: not quitting, 3: overcoming selfishness, or a combination of these themes. top gun: cocky, but pathologically insecure the color of money: cocky, but pathologically insecure days of thunder: cocky, but pathologically insecure. rain man: callow, arrogant, and selfish a few good men: callow, arrogant, and selfish minority report: originally cocky, but spends the entire movie finding out that he was wrong about everything the last samurai: originally arrogant, but spends the entire movie finding out that he was wrong about everything oblivion: spends the entire movie figuring out he was wrong about everything edge of tomorrow: selfish and cowardly. war of the worlds: selfish and incompetent i mean yeah--he's the best at something in many of his movies. i suspect that's because he's a capitalist, and those kinds of movies make a shitload of money. but with a few exceptions (jack reacher, knight and day, etc.), the message of his movies is that talent by itself is worth nothing. So he plays the same character in almost every movie? Kind of what I was saying. so what? worked for Marion Morrison didn't it? |
