I've been wanting to get a Tomahawk for awhile now, but I don't know who the good manufacturers are. Any advice on what brands to look at? Thanks!

I carry a SOG one in my search and rescue pack. Cheap, good steel, and easy to sharpen and keeps and edge. It lops off doorknobs like buttah and the spike goes through tempered glass, especially car window glass quite well. Cut through a Uhaul truck windshield on a wreck again, like buttah!
Got mine from Sportsman's Guide, about $35, so if you mess it up or lose it, you aren't out a ton of money. |
| Cold steel makes an inexpensive tomahawk if you want one to screw around with, that's what I got. There is a long thread on bladeforums about modifying them There is another place that makes tomahawks here in the US and the prices aren't bad but they have no webstore, I'll look for the name again. |

I was looking at this one. Seems pricey, but i have no idea what the avg cost of tomahawks are, lol.

One option........
I have one and like it.
Forged English Light Infantry Axe 22 bucks. Good balance. Easy to throw. |

TAG
I have purchased several different ones mostly Cold Steel and stuff that Brigade Quartermanster used to carry. I tend to prefer blade on one side and hammer poll on the other rather than double blade. hot link |

The method used to attach the Cold Steel heads to the handles is a joke. Plan on doing some modifications. I have to admit I am not impressed but I haven't fiddled with mine yet same. I have the trail hawk and the alan screw leaves something to be desired |

I just odered the SOG Fasthawk last night from Amazon. About 40 bucks with shipping. From my research, SOG or Cold Steel (several different options) are your best bet for under 50 bucks. I think the Cold Steels might be a high carbon steel. Probably harder than the SOG but more prone to rust?
I went with the smaller option because I want to be able to throw it in a pack easily. If I like it, I might get the big brother for around the house/campsite. I really want an RMJ but it will be awhile before I can justify it. |

H&B. Made like they were 200 years ago. If you want one for throwing, don't get a square pole. If you want one for using, get a Wetterlings or Gransfors Bruks hatchet, not a hawk. |

I've always wanted one of these.

These guys make good ones. I don't have one, but a buddy does and I've handled it. Well constructed and looks good.
