Tonight's featured avatar belongs to the member, wwace - a member of the site since 2010.
The girl in the avatar is Kyra Schon, an actress playing the part of Karen Cooper in the 1968 Romero film classic Night of the Living Dead. Karen is one of seven people who have sought refuge in the farmhouse from the zombies. 
She had been bitten and was the first to turn into a zombie. In the below scene, Karen has already turned and is feasting on the arm of her father. She then turns on her mother and kills her with a trowel. (Zombie fans will notice that Karen is violating one of the traditional and rarely broken zombie rules by using a weapon to kill.)

Just FYI I selected her as my Avatar because her look most describes my feelings at the time, my utter disgust with the administration and that hint of danger her eyes focus foretells. I first watched that movie when I was around 13 in 1973 and it was a favorite of my gang of friends. We would scream what they should be doing at the TV and planning our rounds at the mall to get adequate supplies to defeat the Zombie Horde.

It also mixed things up by the hero getting killed in the film - something that rarely happened. - There was no rating system in play at the time, so children were watching this movie at Saturday afternoon matinees. Quite a big change from when Romero came out with Dawn of the Dead which was banned in many areas. |
