It might be easier to make a list of tools you won't need

I will start that list:

________. done

Young guys starting out stop at garage sales and estate sales. You can't enough files or drill bits

I picked up 25 pounds of 3" deck screws for $10.00 ($125.00 in HD) 12 years ago I did not need. I gave away maybe 30% to family/friends cuz I will never need all those

I am almost out of them now. buy any all fasteners nails, screws, what ev you find at bargain prices. You will use them some day believe me

Right now everyone (self included) are buying lithium tools and they are great.
But, if you see corded tools cheap (again garage/estate sales) buy them. They are great back up tools at pennies on the dollar

Now listen up. Store and care for your tools properly

This. I've learned to do many things. Bought tooling and equipment to do it correctly. Chassis building. Engines, trannys and rears. Even the tiny tools to fix IPhones when I just refused to spend money on a new phone or some geek to fix mine. Not hard if you adjust to the miniaturization.

only two tools you'll ever need

duct tape
wd 40

everything else I would just borrow from my dad, he has everything and knew how to use it all.

Figure out a name brand and buy everything cordless.

Oscillating tool and Sawzall will be used more than you think.

Impact driver is a must.

Me neither.

3 lathes, 2 mills, and 6 welders.  And a surface grinder, heat treat oven, blast cabinet, compressor/dryer, H band, couple positioners....

I have too many tools.

Years ago, I bought one for each of my cars. Even though the tools are surprisingly low end, they have come in clutch so many times. I'm still using one of the sets.

Calipers and a thread pitch gauge so we don’t have to swap out half the muzzle devices we ship out.

Customers order the wrong diameter/pitch every day.

This guy gets it. What he describes is what I refer to as the tool tax. You want to save some money? Don't want to be at the mercy of a professional to fix your shit?  Pay the tool tool tax, learn the skill, and never again be at the mercy of your incompetence.

Do this for a decade or two and you'll be equipped and competent to deal with nearly any situation you find yourself in.

The first time time you might just break even. But the next time a problem arises you'll save yourself a fortune.

I reviewed all the posts.

The most helpful one for me was the hand plane.  I bought one and have been using it.

There are actually some that I would like to recommend.

-Automatic center punch
-Blocks of wood
-Headlamp
-Vise with vise blocks (or blocks of wood)
-Wood bits
-A second electric drill (for when the first one is charging or got muddy or being used by a second person)
-Razor blades

One thing I wish I had bought sooner

Finishing air nail gun

I grew up watching my dad do remodeling projects using a hammer/punch when putting up trim.  Fuck all that noise, air nail gun makes it 100x easier.
