I'm about to buy an 08 Scion CD for my kid. Low miles, automatic. The only abnormal thing I heard was a chirping, squeaking noise from the pedal/dash area when the pedal reaches a certain point. It is quiet when the car is off, and ac running, etc. makes no difference. Any idea what this could be?

-Lube pedal linkage
-drivetrain vibration hitting the resonate frequency of some part in the dash.

It almost sounds electrical, like a high pitch piezoelectric speaker type sound. I've never heard a car make a sound like it. It is not very loud, though.

sounds like this is a good used vehicle

seriously, why even ask.  just walk away, its not like you are looking at a rare car here.  find one without problems from hour 1.

Our Corolla did the same thing, it was the pedal squeaking, at the pivot point. You could look up under the dash, and push on the pedal to verify. If that's not it, I'd walk away. I work on those cars every day, and noises like that are very rare.
