I have a VEPR II, 7.62 x 39 in like-new condition.  A fellow ARFcommer has offered me a CAI R1A1 FAL on a non-gear logo Imbel receiver as a trade.  I really like my VEPR, so I'm having a hard time making up my mind as to whether I want to trade or not.

I traded about $800 worth of guns (Stainles Mini-14 and a Winchester 1300 slugger) for the VEPR.  Prices and reviews on the CAI guns vary greatly so I'm not sure if this is an even trade.  His rifle comes with 4 mags, a BSA red-dot, and about 100 rounds of .308.  It also has the metal forend with bipod, but no muzzle device.   I have a Norinco AK Hunter, so if I trade, I'll still have a rifle to shoot the Russian round.  I know there are other pros and cons to consider so I thought I'd ask you to weigh in and help me make up my mind.

I don't know of anyone who would swap a 'good' FAL for an 'ordinary' 7.62*39...

I love FALs but would have to say no on this one. CAI FALs have not had a good reputation. Also .308 is not cheap anymore.

I would say NO just on the statement that you have 800 in the VEPR.  I see CAI Fals for sale here and there from 650-900 so I'd just wait and get yourself a FAL for less than the VEPR, unless he's got LOTS of extras to throw in...
