Tell me what I need to know....

Yes, a dog...just had to put that as I know how some of you are.

New dog (Kena) German Shep is terrible on recall... have been working on her using the standard methods with long leash and so on, but she gets very distracted...anything distracts her.  She is a rescue dog 17months old and has had zero training before we got her.

BTW...not for the one in avatar...that is my Kira and she passed a year ago in December.

Tritronics....

It is not a fix, but an additional tool in your training bag. You need to establish training prior to using an e-collar.

The e-collar is nothing more than a wireless leash. Let's you give a correction from far away.

Tri-tronics is the best brand you can get.

A little more information is needed to determine what you need. What kind of dog, what you want to do with the training collar et etc.

Absolutely.

"The collar just melts the wax in their ears so that they can hear you better."

Sorry...edited the first post..thought I could make it before a reply.

She is horrible about recall, get distracted by anything...been doing the standard training, treats, long leash..so on...just need something to get her attention & give correction from a distance when she bolts.

German Shepherd female 17months old, rescue dog, no training at all before we received her.

Tri tronics or Dogtra.  Stay away from the others.

Start close and set it up so she cannot fail...that means a check cord on a pronged training collar.  Verbal command reinforced with physical stimulus.

Once she understands that disobedience is not an option, you can use the tone feature of the collar as a silent recall command without the negative reinforcement of an electronic correction.

I train bird dogs to know "COME", shrill rolling whistle, and recall tone all mean the same thing.  Snow, wind, terrain, and distance all affect the dogs ability to hear and subsequently obey your command.  I like to give them every tool available.

Consistency in an environment where she cannot fail is paramount to training. Negative reinforcement only comes into play after you KNOW she knows without a doubt what is being asked of her.

Good luck.

The anti-barking shock collar was a failure on Blackie.  Can you imagine what would happen if someone put one on you?
