Does anyone know if this is true? <––––-FFL btw No Federal law requires a dealer or manufacturer to include a copy of their license with the firearm..........but it is the usual practice and done as a courtesy to the receiving dealer. Federal law does require the receiving dealer to record the identity of the person or business who shipped the firearm to them. I have received shipments where the return address on the box reads: "Bill Bobs Pack-N-Ship" and has that stores address.............nothing else inside to indicate who the actual seller is. This is why many dealers want a copy of the shippers FFL and if an individual they want a copy of their drivers license. If your dealer requires a copy of that manufacturers FFL it is purely his business policy and not a requirement of Federal law. ***many dealers think the shippers FFL is required because many ATF Industry Operations Investigators think it is required. Both are wrong.

Tom is correct. That said, if the receiver was shipped directly from the manufacturer then the receiving FFL could use the manufacturer's name and address from the invoice. If he really wanted the FFL number for his books he could go to the ATF's web site and look it up at http://www.atf.gov/about/foia/ffl-list.html.
