I'm in the very very slow process of trying to convince our employer to include weapon retention and transition drills in our course of fire. Our primary weapon is the AR15 9mm carbine with a model 10 as a backup. However even though included in the training matrix is.."go to your backup weapon" we don't train officers to do this. Also with our new union we are pushing hard for armed escorts again. But before I sign off on a Correctional Officers qualification paperwork I want to know that they have the nessesary training to go home at the end of their shift. Armed escorts will for the most part  consist of a .38. Weapon retention is of the utmost importance. Does anyone have a suggestion for books on these two types of training or have a training matrix I could get a copy of?
Thanks.

I just attended an NRA Patrol Rifle Instructor course. Great course! Lots of transition training and great ideas regarding setting up your own training courses. I also have heard great reviews of the select-fire instructor course. If you aren't teaching transitions then you aren't training your people right.
