Our town is cutting back on recycling.  Our household probably generates 2 bags of recycling for every trash bag we throw in our dumpster, so now we'll have a bunch more trash.

As we pay for each dumping of the dumpster, I've been thinking a trash compactor might be a good thing, but have zero experience with them.

Are they worth it? Hard to clean? What is a good model/brand.

Thanks!

I installed a Kenmore back in '95 when I remodeled our kitchen, and it only required replacement of the screw bearings two years ago.
If there's something smelly, my wife will put it in a sealed bag and place it in the freezer.  When the trash goes out, that goes with it.
Between recycling and composting, there isn't much left to be thrown out.
