I recently completed this odyssey.  The water bottle is the real challenge.  Any water bottle.

I ended up Tier 1, but gotta say, I love this freakin bag

Tim Bohn - Copilot bag.

Even though it's not huge, it freakin swallows a water bottle, as well as one night's clothes, aside from shoes - if you really had to.

Go check it out...$170, but it will last me a lifetime - full disclosure, I'm close to retirement

Edit: most bags, you either toss the  bottle in the  bag, so it flies around, or condensates on everything.  Most smaller bags do not have an outer pocket big enough.

The CoPilot has a center zipper, and the bottle drops into it's own pocket.   There's even an  eyelet drain at the bottom, if the bottle does condensate

Lastly, use "crossbody" in your searches as well

A large tablet or smaller laptop satchel is probably your best bet.

Work has a couple of ancient gas mask bags which I think would make for excellent satchels.

I wanted a well made leather or canvas crossbody style bag, but that water bottle just kept killing that dream. Plus, unless just the right design, to me, they looked more like a purse.

The ballistic nylon and denier bags have more of a business/laptop look to them.

I use these in two sizes. I would not use for a European trip, look for ones with cut resistant shoulder straps for the hoods over the pond.
I love these for a Personal Item when flying. I said two sizes depending on need. Not necessarily the "best" out there but these work.

I can travel on plane with two phones, wallet, passport, cords for charging, snacks, female navel lint, sunglasses, napkins, etc...
Just used a smaller size in a three day trip to Sedona. Worked great and carried a water bottle. Plus points, saw no liberals!

The wife made obscene amounts of money during covid as a travel nurse. She is still doing it as the money is still much better than locally.

She just finished a contract in Middlebury, Vt.  Went to visit her a few times. That area of Vermont was real nice.
She is in a small hospital in upstate NY right now and is enjoying the small town feel of it.

She made $8600 per week in Dallas during the height of covid in Dallas. She milked that contract for 8 months.

When I see a man carrying a murse, it's totally obvious he's carrying.

Maybe you don't care op, and carrying isn't the reason for the murse, but when I see one it screams out, I have a firearm, ifak, edc items, etc.

A jacket with a liner, and interior pockets can easily hold all your things, and not be noticed.

Most the security guards I see and work with at clubs & casinos are carrying them for thier backup edc & kit.

It's not like thier hiding anything, we all know what's in there. It's actually more of an obvious statement that they are carrying a backup kit.

Not knocking it for utility, but your not at all being " grey man " carrying a visible satchel across your body.

I carried a maxpedition jumbo versipak with a bottle holster on the strap for many years when I was traveling around the world for almost a decade.

99% of my "important stuff", all fit in that bag. Between that and a regulation size roll-aboard bag, I was good for three or four days.

And I have found maxpedition stuff wears like steel. The nylon they use is heavy and stiff, and very abrasion resistant.
