We are considering buying a travel trailer for family camping/vacations. Thinking about a 20 footer or so.

Anyone have rough idea how much storage and insurance is for one of these?

Just seeing if its in the budget and I know Arfcom as knowledge on all things....

RVNet is the ARFCOM of travel trailers, campers, 5th wheels and motor homes - So, be sure to post your inquiry over there as well...

Rent one the first time to see what you like and don't like in a travel trailer.

We started with a 20 footer when we had one kid and it was functional but very limited on storage.  The previous owner put an extra 60 gallon fresh water tank under the bed so that was part of the problem.  It had eventhing you needed and was WAY more comfortable than tenting and personally, I liked the extra freash water supply.  No place easy to put dirty clothes was the biggest complaint from my wife.

We now have a 30' Outback and two boys, the difference is night and day in the storage dept.  We can pack for 2-3 weeks and only restock frozen and refridgerated items.  The kids have their own "toy" storage, we have our cooking gear in another, blocking for the uneven sites in another, several cases of bottled water and pop in another and even a place for golf clubs or rifles.

The difference is going to be what you pull it with.  The 20' will tow pretty well with a 1/2 ton and Weight Dist. hitch (not really needed for short trips).  The 30', while claims to be towable with a 1/2 ton, really needs a 3/4 ton.  We went with the Duramax/Allison and it pulls great and I use a WD hitch with it as well.

ETA: Full coverage w/Allstate for our 2010 Outback BKHS is 129.00/year and we paid 18,500 cash for the TT.
