Who was a fan of the original? Who is planning on seeing the new one?
My bro and I really got into the original. |

liked and will see but i expect it to be like the new star trek movie. a descent movie, but not really what tron is all about. rather it just uses a lot of the tools and story line from the original movie. Well, OTOH, 20 years in the real world, could be construed as being thousands... millions in cyberspace etc. That would explain any differences pretty neatly. |

Quoted: I have the 2-DVD set with the "Making of" documentary, which is just as interesting as the movie. I'll see the sequel, but it's pretty much impossible to make me go to a theater anymore. It'll wait until I can watch it at home. Dude! No way man! It'll be in THREE DEEEEEEE. It'll probably look just as good or better than...uh...err..<cough>Avatar</cough> 3D wise. ![]() Definitely looking forward to it's release in theaters. Looks amazing. |

I think a Tron thread is a great place to share the wealth of this one, for those that may have not seen it:
http://www.xepisodes.com/southpark/episodes/1404/Youve-Got-0-Friends.html It's a recent South Park episode with a large Tron element to it, centered around Facebook - had me rolling. |

Haven't seen the new one yet, so I am...............BUT...............I am because there are a lot little subplots and other things in there that takes it beyond the surface. Such as when Flynn is climbing aboard the Solar Sailor and Tron introduces him to Yori. "This is Flynn, the program who helped me bust out of (whatever)". It's been a year or two since I've last seen it. Now, of course, we know who and what Flynn is, but seeing it for a moment from their point of view, I got the feel of how they could perceive him, as someone very capable, someone you wanted on your side. It's things like that that I love in movies........and given what they shoot for in movies often, I think it is lost. However, I will have to reserve my total opinion until I see this one. ___________________________________________ ("Now you know why all his friends are still in junior high."––Lori about Flynn, (w,stte), "Tron") |

I showed my son the original not too long ago, and we're both looking forward to seeing the sequel. | Cameos make it a little more promising, but I'm still thinking it'll get mucked up with "love story" nonsense. I wish someone in the industry had the guts to craft a truly purist story w/o so often trying to "broaden" the appeal. Conceptually, "TRON" was kind of ahead of its time & a brave risk for Disney. I gotta give them credit, though, as it was a pre-watermark event in the extensive use of movie CGI. I vaguely recall that the supercomputers that generated the imagery were in refridgerated/cooled rooms & the programmers had to wear winter-style jackets while coding at the terminals. |

Quoted: I've never seen the original but want to. However, I can't find a copy of the original anywhere for less than about $80 and I can't seem to find a place to even rent the original. CMOS It was in a pretty regular rotation on one of the sat. movie channels recently (one of the Encore channels maybe?), but I just checked the listings and it doesn't seem to be airing in the next two weeks anywhere. |
