Any ideas of what to do in early October in Tucson.  I think the wife and I are coming out that way to visit Kitt observatory and I was wondering if anyone had other things to do or could recommend a nice place to stay for around 150-200 a night.

How long will you be there?  Drive down to Tombstone and/or Bisbee if you've got time.

Bisbee is cool, the Pima air museum is cool too.

Saguaro national park on the NE side of town is beautiful. I spent  a week in Tucson last Christmas and the best time I had was walking around out in the desert looking at the wildlife; its so different from what we have back east.

Oh yeah, that.

I did that I think 12/31 last year, it was beautiful.

(It was also 80 degrees! I went home the next day and a few weeks later it was -20 for a few days. The hundred degree spread from vacation to home is a real bitch)

Get a motorcycle if you really want to experience Kitt Peak, Mt. Lemmon or Arivaca Road.  They will curl your toes.

Boot Hill Cemetery, Tombstone, Az

View from near the top of Mt Lemon, just outside Tucson

Some wild fire damage on Mt  Lemon

I have a brother that lives in Tucson, actually just outside town.  Here's his back "yard".

Is the missile silo still on top of Mount Lemmon?

hmmm, I was up there at the old radar site by the telescopes a few years back.  Interesting stuff up there but I was never told about a silo.

They close at 4 pm on saturday, which is weird.  I lived in the house directly behind Sausage Deli for six years.

The quail hunting is pretty good, a 3-day out of state permit is $60.  And you can always go shooting at Redington Pass to the NE of Tucson.

On Speedway, East of Roger, there is a roadside mexican food place (Karmelo King).  They cook everything on an open mesquite fire, and it is the best mexican food I've ever tasted.  It's open in the evenings on friday and saturday in the parking lot of Sparkle Car Wash.

They may have filled it in but I know there was one there...somewhere. I don't think it was well publicized as the Mount was kind of a tourist area - especially in the winter.

Embassy Suites or Hampton should be very acceptable and probably cheaper than your price mentioned.

Three Points (Tucson Rifle Club) has an excellent range that is worth visiting.

Not likely. The tour at TMM said that the was the only silo left largely intact.

Definitely go up mount lemmon, it's a mind-trip to go from scrubby desert to a full blown ponderosa forest in 30 minutes.

A Very VERY nice place is the Arizona Inn.

This place is in the middle of tucson, but when you are on the grounds of the hotel, you feel like you are on a freakin island.. It's so quiet, and nice, the rooms are excellent. Even if you don't stay there, I would stop by and have lunch by on of their pools, it's a great place.

Check out the AMARC boneyard at DM. The Pima Air Museum offers tram/bus type tours, but if time does not permit that, you can still see a lot of the mothballed aircraft from the public roads.
