Turns out brake cleaner is like nerve gas to them, too, and I didn't have to drive anywhere or buy anything Not sure why any homeowner (rural or not) doesn't keep wasp spray on hand. Most of them also spray much farther than automotive cleaners. It's cheaper too. I usually only have to deal with 1-2 actual nests a year and I had can of brake cleaner sitting on the shelf that was sitting on the pine and ready to go. It worked wonderfully so not sure why the concern. If it works it works I don't see the need to go burn up gas, buy something, and burn up more gas at Brandon prices to do the same thing as something I already had ready to go |

What about shooting a nest full of expanding foam? That could be neat.
It's like those videos where people pour molten metal in an ant hill and dig it up, but for poor people. |

Got stung by one a few weeks ago. It hurt. My house is partially stucco and partially wood siding, I found a place where they were crawling out.
Got some Raid and killed many of them. Monday I was finishing the yard and there was this very large one by a rock. It was mostly black with two distinct yellow stripes on the back part. Significantly larger than a typical yellow jacket. I cut that thing up with the string trimmer and enjoyed it. (the one that stung me got me on the wrist and my hand was swollen for 3 days. I fucking hate those fuckers.) |

My grandpa would just climb a ladder and grab a red wasp nest with his bare hands and toss it to the ground.
He’d casually climb back down and smash it with his boot I asked him, “pawpaw, do they sting you?” He looked at me and said, “meh what you think?, it’s some damn wasp, of course they sting me”. RIP you old hard ass |

The good chlorinated brake cleaner, or this ghey new non chlorinated version?

Works better on scorpions in Arizona than scorpion spray does!

Dragon fire ( castle carb cleaner) isn't bad either on wasps.

Quoted: Wrong. Brake cleaner will kill most insects dead within a few seconds. Ive used it for 30 years. Worst case spay some then light a lighter and it will burn to death. This thread makes me smile. I love to see wasps die. Kill ‘‘em all.
Brake cleaner, wasp spray, diesel, gasoline, whatever organic solvents you have generally works. |

You have to use the red can chlorinated stuff, kills anything dead, but already eats paint and isn't that great for you either.
The green can, non-chlorinated stuff just pisses them off. |
|
Yep it fucks em up.
Having had the stuff in my eyes and in cuts in my skin, I can understand why lol. |

A pump sprayer and some dish soap will also fuck them up good. On a hot sunny day you'll want to douse the shit out of them on the ground too but it will knock them down fast and kill them in about 20 to 40 secs. I use that out in the woods. I'd spend a fortune in wasp spray otherwise.

Run out of Wasp spray, but always have brake cleaner?
Don't you also run out of brake cleaner? Buy both at the same time? Stock up on Wasp spray like you do brake cleaner? Just seems like a weird argument since they are both finite items that have to be replaced. |

Not to derail or brag,
So far far this year, I’m 8-0 with a tennis racquet vs. carpenter bees |

Carb cleaner works too if you hold a lighter in front of the spray and get close enough to the nest. Trust me, as I kid i Loved roasting those bastards.

All the roofers on our crews used to carry a mini WD40 can in their tool pouch. Killed anything flying drt. This was back in the 80s. I tried that on a wasp few years ago and didn't do shit. They must have changed up the recipe.

I use brake cleaner and a propane torch for stand off flame thrower action when the new nests start appearing in spring.
Once their wings get burned off it essentially turns rhem into big pissed off ants. |
|
|
My buddy says:
"You're supposed to use a lighter to turn spray brake or carburetor cleaner into a mini flame thrower. A quick burst will burn off their delicate wings. Don't kill mud dauber wasps, as they're not aggressive, like paper wasps, hornets and yellow jackets." |

Brake cleaner doesn't have any effect on woodpeckers.
A pecker was trying to cut a hole in my garage siding. I just happened to have a can of brake cleaner in my hand, so I zapped him good and he took off. I then soaked the half-completed hole, figuring it would be too toxic for him. But he came back later and finished the job. Found him in my garage the next day, tearing up the window sill. I grabbed a broom and thus began The Battle of BikerNut's Garage. |
