Not supposed to eat raw turtle, much less sea turtle which i think is protected. Although it probably wasn't sea turtle.

hmmm.. not sure how I feel about eating raw reptile.. Lots of bacteria on a reptile.... or was this peice cooked? The word sashimi refers to raw. It was more than likely sea turtle. Uh.. sea turtle or not, lots of bacteria related to reptiles... A sea turtle, even though it lives in the sea, is still a reptile. Some people missuse Sashimi so i thought i best to confirm then emply. I would be a little sketchy on raw turtle. However snapper soup is very tastey. |

Status of Marine Turtles All 7 species of marine turtles are listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA); 6 of those species fall under the jurisdiction of the NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources. Green turtles and olive ridley turtles have breeding populations that were listed separately under the ESA, and therefore, have more than one ESA status. http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/pr/species/turtles/ |

Supposedly snapper tastes like sea turtle... nasty looking critters though. I got two cans of snapper soup in the pantry for a rainy day i brought down from Jersey.. Im not sure where you would buy it in NC as that is where the OP and I live. I know its illegal to sell turtles in NC but i dont know about bringing them in the state. I would also think that would be rather sketchy as turtles and bacteria go hand in hand and the health department may frown on that. NO sushi for me if there are turtles in the house.. Glad the OP got a taste but watch out dude it may not have been legit. |

Actually, here in the states, sashimi usually refers to the style of how your order is served. Sushi is the meat with the sushi rice, sashimi is the meat on its own, usually a different cut is used as well. Of course there are plenty of sushi and sashimi made without raw meat. Tamago for example is actually a sweetened egg omlette. Massago are fish eggs. Eel is sometimes served raw or barbequed. There are other examples of things that can be ordered sushi or sashimi style at pretty much any sushi bar. So it is possible to order sashimi and not get raw fish... |
