At least they returned fire and killed the shooter. I hope they both recover quick.

Bama, Jarhead - saw your emails when I got home from work this morning.
I'm fine - thanks for the concern. I'll try to post without giving away any non-public info. Things went bad very quickly on that car stop. One of the guys in that plainclothes squad had already hit me up on my cell, to let me know they were stopping a vehicle near my AO. They thought the guys in the car might run or fight when they initiated the stop. I was almost there, when they got on the radio, advising that they were in a physical altercation with one of the suspects. Not much more I can say - those who had heard their friends calling for help on the radio, with gunshots in the background know what that feels like. |

The police union chief says he expects both will be able to return to work. One officer was shot in the right cheek, while the other was shot in the hand. Police officials say they will make officers' names public Tuesday. The name of the gunman, who officers shot and killed during the encounter has not yet been released, pending notification of his relatives. Police officials say the officers were arresting one of two passengers early Sunday, but the driver hesitated to get out. Police say the man struggled with officers, grabbed a handgun and started shooting. The officers returned fire, killing him. |

First, I'm glad they were released already and I hope they recover quickly. Secondly, I'm glad they killed the sonofabitch.
