I'm gonna be spending some time in Tyler for work and would like to kill some time and eat good food. I know that there are a bunch of E. Texas folks on here, so what is there to do after 5pm during the week? Any good places to eat?

Very hot 'country' blondes in the area that are looking for a 'ticket' out of town.

This was one of my favorite areas of the country to 'drop in' when I had a corp jet...

Then Texarkana happened...

Good places for grub:

Mercados (Texmex) on the southwest loop 323

The Diner (breakfast) 8000 blk south 69

Bernards (fancy) about 4500 south broadway tucked into a shopping center

Post in the Texas HTF and let us know more about your trip, dates, by yourself or someone coming with you, whst things do you like to do, etc.

If your lookin for sit in authentic mexican food,  Don Juans Mexican Food. Two locations, one in the ghetto on west erwin and then one in the downtown square. Really good food. If you want a taco joint, definitely Taqueria El Lugar, multiple locations.

Italian food: Bruno's Pizza down Old Jacksonville toward Gresham once  go around the loop heading towards broadway after  hwy 155. Or there is the original on vine.

Texas Roadhouse is always good, its on the loop and hwy 110. Cheap place to drink is double daves in the times square shopping center, 50 cent drafts on wednesday after purchasing some pizza rolls sometimes beer pong during the weekend.

Clicks is a pool hall/ bar has some concerts sometimes. electric cowboy and down under pub are clubs. Where's Rufus is a popular bar.

Mostly people just buy their own beer and have parties.  Screw dry Smith County.

Man, I didn't realize that Tyler had such a big selection! I might go a month without eating at the same place twice. I hear that there is a
Ryan's Steakhouse there as well

Thanks for all of the tips!
What about gun shops? I've passed by Noonday and Lock and Load, are they any good?

You may be on to something there because the most horny girl I ever met in my life moved to Florida from Tyler Texas.  By the time she graduated from High School she had been laid almost every male in the Senior class.  By ten years later she had been married four times and broke up two marrieges because of affairs.  She is a legend around these parts.

Psh, I lived in a house just off Birdsong for a few years.

I bought my first gun then.

Just don't hang around outside after dark.

Longview:

Bodacious for BBQ. I like Carter's BBQ on Eastman for the boudin, but half the time they are out, and the place is often packed and SLOW.

What's up with the "fancy" Whataburgers in Tyler? There's one on 155 and another on S. Broadway (traffic sucks on this street btw).

I was talking to mom the other day.. she lives on Curtis Drive and she said they have the roads all torn up around there...
intersection of Troup Hwy and Loop 323 as well as Broadway are supposed to be a real mess...

OH!! and one other thing.. stay south of Gentry Parkway... it gets ugly on the north side after dark and sometimes in the day as well.

Thanks for all of the tips, so far I've hit Where's Rufus, Cheddars, Stanley's, Appleby's, and Mercado's. I might check out Double Daves tomorrow if the .50 cent drafts is legit. I also checked out the Noonday Gunshop and found a couple of deals.

3/10/2010 1:20:12 AM EDT
[#35]
Noonday gunshop is a good deal, if he has it in stock it's normally within $25 of the price you might find on gunbroker etc...if he has to order it it's pretty close as well.

The old guy in the biker garb will do you right, the tall skinny guy is an A number 1 you know what and when he's in there working alone I just come back later.

If you reload the Gun Doctor in Longview is pretty good and has a lot on hand and their prices on powder are really good all considering - like $18/$22 per pound which comparing to what other people are paying is great.
