Recently switched to USAA for all my insurance and banking needs, and have had people tell me how much they suck. All the people proclaiming that they suck, are not members.
USAA is now saving me a shit-ton of money over other insurance companies. It's costing me less for full coverage on two vehicles and renters insurance than I was paying for just full coverage on one vehicle with progressive. Check out all the negative comments on this site http://www.carreview.com/cat/misc-category/auto-insurance/usaa/PRD_14846_1823crx.aspx Seems like 99% are from people who got hit by someone with USAA (who seem to be like rabid animals against anyone who tries to go after their clients). Glad I'm on the USAA side now.

USAA is great. Got hit by an uninsured driver (35 years ago when that wasn't illegal). USAA bird dogged that guy and put him on a payment plan.
Got my deductible back about a year later. Recently I was hit by a guy insured by GEICO. GIECO denied the claim. USAA went after them, it went to arbitration, and again I got my deductible back. |
|
they had dad for 25+ years, me for 2 then I switched(geico was cheaper), then after geico decided to bend me over with no KY after a roll over wreck(it will take 3 weeks to determine if your truck is totaled sir... until then please walk or rent a car, in Fairbanks in NOVEMBER!!!! ). Then I was offered a pathetic settlement for my truck(less than 50% of blue book), after aguing with the supervisor, and refusing to give up the title(I wouldnt sell it for a bad price, |
|
My family was with them since before i was before until about a year ago. Great service, better price than most. Only reason we changed is economy is making the family tighten the belts so dad switched the family plan over to another company with a lower rate. We have yet to see how the service compares, but no one expects it to be anywhere near as good.
I have no doubt you will remain happy with them, hopefully things pick up and we can switch back. |

USAA is the best company ever.
I have all my insurance needs done by them, including supplemental gun insurance where they let me insure all my guns by individual value. Plus they pay me dividends. And you are right that the only people who bitch about them are people who don't use them. |

I got hit by a USAA driver in February and have never had to deal with a more fucked up company in my life! Yeah, they fight for their members. Don't you wish your insurance company did that for you? Really, read some of the stories in the link...it's crazy. It really is like USAA is a fucking pitbull, going against a hamster. ![]() |

But even when I wrecked my car by my own fault, they gave me market value of my car. I did pay for the option, but even so my car insurance is only $750 a year. |

I'm one of those who had to deal with USAA as a claimant. USAA insured hit my car. USAA accepted liability as their insured was locked up fro DUI/Domestic for fighting with his girl while DUI.
My wife was driving, I was in California. USAA tells me on the phone three days after the accident that it was being totaled. They asked that i chose a yard for it to go to that is one their preferred, as to avoid towing yard charges. No problem. Get home a week later, go look at the car, and the yard has already done a repair estimate for USAA. Then I get a letter from USAA telling me that the vehicle was considered a total loss! So, a letter and a phone call telling me that the car was a total loss, but the guys in Texas arguing that that was a mistake and that the car was repairable. Too three weeks and an e-mail to the president of USAA, and their general counsels office with a copy of the letter. Next day, I got a call telling me it was a total loss for sure. So, yeah, screwed up company to have to deal with, even when they accepted liability. |

The common thing I've read on that site is people overvalue their car...because it's theirs, and it's been perfectly maintained etc...that and they have pain and suffering.
Not talking about you Menehune, talking about the people from the site I linked. |

Not talking about you Menehune, talking about the people from the site I linked. If repair exceeds market value, then its usually a total loss. Every company does this. |

yeah, can't complain about that!
I had the car for sale at the time, and was kind of pissed that now I wouldn't be able to sell it for what I was asking. Diminished value doesn't amount to anything! When they totalled it, they actually paid me more that I had been asking! I do understand about people feeling that a vehicle has a higher value than it does, but in my case, they felt it was a higher value than I had it priced! |

Quoted: They want you to drop EVERYTHING you're working on to help them. Immediately. Doesn't matter what else is going on, when they want something they want it yesterday. I once got a call from them, on my cell phone (have no idea how they got that number) and wanted an answer to a question that was way outside my scope. Then, when I told them it was outside my scope, they wanted an operational decision. From me. On the spot. I ended up having to make the call, and my boss had to cover for me hard core (luckily I made the right call).Quoted: They're very demanding as a client as well. How so? |
|
I think in my case, it was that I was getting two different outcomes from 8 different people. Told it's totaled, told it's repairable. Told it's totaled, told its repairable.... Then told to ignore the letter telling me it was a total loss...
In the end though, I came out well, minus a good little car. |
