Aviation Week reported today (9/10) that the program has been put on indefinite hold and that the next White House Administration would preside over the RFP and contract award. The article stated that the delay would allow Boeing to put together a proposal based on the 777.

So now the USAF waits another 10 years to replace the KC-135?

It was probably put on hold because Boeing workers may be going out on strike, and the USAF has to wait for them to do their catch up (just kidding I hope).  Politics makes me sick with no cure in sight.

... This is a good sign that Gates & DoD believe John McCain will be elected president in November

Which is also a very good indicator that NG/EADS will win the contract award, again, that is to say if McCain is elected.

What's your hard on with Boeing? You a NG or Airbus employee or a pissed off ex-Boeing employee?

Copy that.  Was on a scarebus A320 two days ago with out A/C for the whole flight after a 40 minute wait on the tarmac at ORD.  I just love the smell of ass rotting.  Odd- the old DC-9 that brought me there worked flawlessly.

I could go on and on.  YMMV, but the mechanics I know who make those things work prefer Boeing- and they got their start in the US marines or Air Force.  I trust their opinion and their first-hand accounts of chicanery on those scarebus aircraft.

It will be Boeings 2nd chance to lose a contract.

If Boeing wins this time around, they should scrap the whole bid thing.

... Emotion and politics should not play a role in contract award - I'm a huge proponent of military hardware acquisition reform. In fact, I recently presented a well-received paper on the savings and benefits it brings to all stakeholders

Customers, end-users and an independent taxpayer (technical/business) oversight committee should make the decision - not just the USAF alone

Oh great, an aircraft designed by disparate committees.

... Hmmm, so you don't support the notion of having:
  • Customer: Assure performance requirements are met by users

  • User: Warfighter's say in what is needed on the battlefield today and in the future

  • Contractor: Designs the most robust, equitable, reliable, efficient air vehicle available in the world now and for the coming decades

  • GAO oversight: Assures taxpayers that the business and technical end of the program is equitable and performance , earned value is tracked during the process

  • ... maybe you should stick to "what it is you do" and leave military acquisitions to those that know

Politicians getting involved in the design requirements/performance parameters of an aircraft is doomed to failure.

    F-111B anyone?
