GOT-DAMN it's SLOW!  I'm exporting a 257 GB music folder from a Windows unit to a 2TB external, it's rating in at a 23 hour transfer.  That's just damned ridiculous.  By the GODS, MAN!

With a decent USB drive that should take 3 hours tops.

probably more the HDs fault than USB, they tend to put those slow ass "green" hard drives in externals.

You need USB 3.

That is a LOT of music

I only have about 35Gb and that's like 700+ albums and like a month straight of music.
Do you own every commercially recorded note of music sold?
Own a controlling interest in iTunes.

But yeah......USB takes a while.

I love my new Jeep...has a hard drive....I cats transfer my music to the Hd and have my music with me.....no need to keep a USB in the vehicle

I have an immodest music collection, not the least of which is about 1.2k Grateful Dead shows, all high bit-rate SBDs.

USB3 is on it's way out.  Thunderbolt will be the thing to get if you're buying now.

I had a 4tb RAID5 rebuild take 2.5 days on an ICH10R onboard controller.  After that experience I bought an LSI MegaRaid card.

Amateurs!  I have a 600GB library (over 85,000 songs). It takes about 7 hours to duplicate via USB.

Oh, did I say this was my WHOLE collection?  This is just a file.    My entire collection weighs in @ 1.6TB.

Your hard drive on the windows machine is probably ready to die. That and it's not accurate calculating the time remaining, it can get close, but when there are thousand of small different size files, it doesn't not accurately calculate. If you had one large 257gb file, it'd tell you exactly how much time is left.

You should see my customer's faces when they think a data transfer will take 2-3 hours, then after a minutes or so it goes down to like 15-20 minutes.

Also, how old is this computer? USB 1 will only transfer at about 12mbps max.

It's a fairly new HP portable, and the transfer is almost done.   False readings at first shocked me!  It's USB 2.  I'm then gonna run a "dupe" script on it via my MBP, as many files are redundant.  I wanted the file on an external in case the script fails.
