| ...could someone please explain to me why they deserve a title shot if they lost to an unranked team? |
|
Well the fat lady hasnt sang yet. USC still has to play a very good UCLA team at UCLA. UCLA has a pretty good defense and should put up a good fight. I agree there is a high degree of media asskissing by the media. It should be interesting how the polls come out tomorrow. Also some of the coaches refused to vote and didnt! |
You're just skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeered.
|
Its kind of sad reflection of buckeye fans that no buckeye can have a civil discussion on football without having to resort to name calling. |
+1 |
| Oregon State is a good team, and USC lost narrowly on the road. Oregon State is 8-4 with a shot at finishing the season 10-4. I think the latest power rankings have them around 20th, maybe a bit higher after the victory against U of O. And they've been streaking lately. It's possible that they'll be ranked in the next set of polls to come out. |
If you don't understand by now, any explanation forthcoming here, won't elucidate you anymore. Nor will it satisfy any of the crybabies around here. UCLA doesn't have a snowball's chance. |
Most of them are rabidly mental. If USC does go to Arizona, it won't be the Big Ten team I'll be rooting for. |
+1 Slapping Michigan around like a red headed step-child twice in one year would sure be fun but we've been there and done that. Besides, this cocky little USC loving...person in my platoon has been talking shit since before the season started USC probably is a better team than Michigan...they worry me more than UM but they certainly haven't earned the right to play for the national championship after their loss to the Oregon State....what is Oregan State's team name?! <---That's why they haven't earned the right. No offense but WHO THE FUCK IS OREGON STATE (rhetorical). |
Let me guess, you're still crying in your beer over the LSU fiasco of a few years ago? Waah waah waah. |
I love the Buckeyes, but the typical Buckeye fan is a pain in the ass. There is actually a media campaign w/ commercials, billboards etc. to remind everyone to play nice. I'm also a little jaded due to the fact that I'm a firefighter, & some students have a knack for making firefighters miserable (it's worse when we win) by torching dumpsters, furniture & cars all night long. As far as the matchup goes, initially I wasn't interested in the rematch, until Hart's post game comments ("They weren't nothing special"). IMHO, UM played the best game they've played all year, and OSU played mediocre - with Ginn dropping at least 3 potentially 6 pt. passes, and the bad snaps/interceptions, the game could've been a lot more decisive. I also heard "the wet/long turf was designed to slow UM down". C'mon, who's faster than Ginn, why would we want to slow him down. Lets go to the desert, play on a neutral field, where the grass actually sticks to the dirt it's planted in & see what happens. USC stomped ND, but UM is still a better football team. |
Nevertheless you'll have a LOT MORE fun talking trash if you beat USC. Should be a good game... |
| Because it's a down year in CFB as a whole. Ohio Stae is the only really "class" team this year, besides maybe Michigan and they already played. And come on its the college of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA the media is licking their chops at the ratings it will get. Just like last year with USC and Texas. |
|
IIRC OSU turned the ball over 3 times and still had UM easily beat. They were closing in at the end but the score is deceiving because by the time the 4th quarter rolls around the winning team is usually much more concerned with running the clock out than putting up more points...just get the win and leave. Fans burn shit everywhere. It's more of a college student thing than an OSU fan thing. |
Yeah, I know it's not exclusive to us, and really not the behavior of most - but we've had drunk students climb into the drivers side cab of the trucks while guys were on hoselines fighting car fires, and crews have had to back off streets after being pelted w/ debris & wait on police protection while putting out fires. Again, the last 2 years things have improved dramatically. |
So 3 points is slapping around. Dude you have a warped sense of winning. 5 TDs slapping around. 3 points in under the wire. Maybe OSU didnt play their best game because they couldnt. Only a rematch will let us know for sure. |
Dude, Detroit can't win a championship of any kind, or even have Halloween without the city getting burnt to shit!
|
Get a hold of reality. Dont you have a couch to go burn somewhere or a car to overturn? 3 points is 3 points. You might as well be going around bragging you had sex with your sister. Nothing to brag about. Really. |
Thats true but Detroit isnt Ann Arbor. The two could not be more different. But you make some valid points. I cant imagine the work you will have if they win if all again. |
Yeah- no shit....lets talk about weak conferences....the SEC is a JOKE.....USC walks in and bends over OUR-Kansas on their home field who are now the only team worth a damn in the SEC...SC has had a number of close calls in conference play- UW nearly spoiled their home win streak, but for the last play of the game ( a conference bottom dweller like the Huskies faired far better than ND did)..the Pac-10 isn't the Big-10 in terms of top to bottom parity and quality, but they're not alll that far behind either... |
|
You USC haters are missing one very important point. Like it or not, in the last few years, Pete Carroll and his Trojans have had what is probably the best run in modern NCAA FB history. I think we may have to go back to the Bud Wilkonson coached Oklahoma teams of the 50s and '60s to see a parallell. How many games have they lost since 2002? Not many. Three years ago, they won it all. Two years ago, I think they lost ONE game and won it all. IIRC, they lost to Cal. Then they lost to Texas last year in an incredible squeaker and stellar performance put on by Vince Young. That was the ONLY thing standing between USC and a "Three-Peat". I mean...this dude Carroll is beginning to look a bit like the Wizard of Westwood for FB. Whatever, their record is the best in the country over the last few years. Even if they don't get to play OU, they are still a great team. I hope they get a shot. I may not like the outcome...because OU is really something...but who can say. Pete Carroll is truly a wizard. Just one thing stands in their way...my favorite team...UCLA.
|
He would be an average coach anywhere else. You cannot beat USC for its ability to recruit. All those players were there before Carroll came and will still be there when he leaves for the NFL. USC has so much to offer, what 18 yo kid would not want to go there? Their ability to attract 5 star athletes is unsurpassed. In fact even OSU doesnt have the number of 5 star players out of high school that USC does. |
I guess what I'm saying is I'm an OSU fan, just not a big fan of (certain) OSU fans. I'd rather have visiting fans go home after a sound beating, but saying "Wow, we got our asses kicked, but their fans have class". It's a great rivalry - and certain conditions could have been better for both teams, but I feel OSU is the best team in college football this year, and Tressell doesn't lose Bowl games. I'd love to see the rematch in the desert regardless of the fact that UM didn't win its division. |
You do realize regardless of whether they win or lose, you are going to have your work cut out for you. When those bars on High street empty they better have lots of LEOs out or its going to get ugly. I remember going to a bar and wondering why there were slats on the floor. Then some dude started puking and the bouncer brought out a hose and hosed it down the slats into a drain. You have to wonder about a bar that is ready for stuff like that! |
Showing a NCAA school that has had any where near the same type behavior as OSU was the challenge. "Everywhere" |
|
Why should Michigan get another chance? They had their shot and they blew it. The two best one loss teams are either USC or Florida, so give one of them a chance, I don't care which one. But the important news was that the Sooners beat the other OSU, so that the Big 12 championship is between Nebraska and Oklahoma. This is as God intended. Allowing other teams to win in the Big 12 was just a cruel joke. GO HUSKERS!!! |
Well I am a buckeye fan and have been since I could walk. We beat a very good Michigan team or as Woody would have said “that team up north”. ND is way over hyped, I expected USC to beat them. Had we played Michigan in their house it may have went the other way. If USC beats UCLA they deserve the National Title bid. Florida is a good team but I doubt they will get a shot. I would still like to see Michigan and Ohio State in the title game regardless of the winner they are the best two teams. The Big Ten has screwed up the BCS because they do not have a conference title game within the Big Ten to produce a conference champ, Wisconsin got left out they are 11-1. ND has turned down a few offers to join the Big Ten and will not ever because they don’t want to play a big ten schedule year in and year out. What it really comes down to is money. The sports casters are biased. Look at Ivan Maisel the Senior ESPN writer who consistently claims the SEC is the toughest conference. The Big 12, PAC 10, and Big 10 are just as competitive as the SEC. Everyone on this board complains about the liberal media. Well you are getting more of the same from the likes of ESPN, Lou Holtz emphatically boasted about ND beating USC, where is the subjective reporting of the sports caster, it does not exist. The sports media has slighted Arkansas, LSU, Boise State, and Rutgers. Would I like to see OSU win the National championship again hell yes, I just wish we could have a system that puts the two best teams in the National championship game period. Forget about TV ratings and money. As has been said before by many sports journalists and fans, we need a playoff system to truly pit #1 against #2. |
Does that mean the college coaches that were polled and rated USC #2 get a cut of the money from the media under the table? |
Holy Mackeral! A smart and literate Bucknut! Nicely said. |
Yeah, we actually bring in 2 extra engines & 2 extra medic units, a chief, and a mobile dispatch unit for big games. Arson also gets O.T. & it has made a difference. This year vs UM the PD brought in mobile lighting for trouble spots (Chitteneden, etc) and Arson charges have been filed on several individuals, with involved students also facing expulsion. Go to You Tube and search Columbus Police. They have some recent pre & post game revelers on campus fighting with the cops. One girl even comes out of the crowd & punches a cop in the face while he's making an arrest. Now it's on the news like CPD was out of line or some bullshit.
|
In a round about way yes. The BSC payouts are larger for the better games. So if UM and OSU play a rematch they would take the lions share to the Big 10. Big 10 teams then get more resources to recruit and build better facilities. All the other conferences would take a much smaller share. Money is ultimately the engine that drives sports. |
Yeah, because a couple dozen drunken college students were involved in some stupid shit most OSU fans yearn to burn couches on gameday ![]() I don't have any examples of wild celebrations from Michigan fans...of course they haven't had an OSU-UM victory to celebrate in quite a while. |

ain't gonna happen.
