Back in 2008 some friends and I rented a sweet house on the Peterburg peninsula of St. Thomas for 2 weeks. Close to Magen's Bay beach.
We bought food and booze in local stores, drove around in our rental Jeep. Minded our own business. Chartered a sailboat and went over to St. John. Had an excellent time. I understand in the intervening 8 years the islands have gone in the shitter. Charlotte Amalie was a No-Go zone after sunset back then. Now I'm told the sunlight no longer keeps the cockroaches indoors. Semper Fi |

St. John is the most beautiful place I have ever been. The island is 2/3 national park, so it is uncrowded and you don't see high rises on the beaches. You don't see any buildings or houses at all on a lot of the beaches. It is expensive, though.
St. Thomas is somewhat ghetto on the south side, but has some nice areas as you get away from Charlotte Amalie. I can't help you on St. Croix. Never been there. I have heard good things about Jost van Dyke (British V.I.). |
