In 1917 our population was 103 million. Today it is close to 350 million. Are we really being well served by the same number of Congress critters now as we were then. With the advent of the internet/social media ,which obviously didn`t exist in 1917, have we failed to respond to changing circumstances?

We don't need more of them if that's what you mean.

The number in congress isn't going to change anything.

What we really need to do is get rid of the direct elections for Senators and give senators back to the states.

I didn`t mean that we needed MORE of the slimers. Just wondering if our circumstance might not need a different approach. Giving the selections back to the states would be a start.

What do you recommend?

I like it as is.

I think the founding fathers were much smarter than anyone serving in Congress today - much bigger thinkers - and got it as right as possible for a first try.

The Founders gave us a system that damn well could have lasted forever.  It's on the people.  97% re-election rate

There is no accountability with the number we have today. Adding more isn't going to help.

I fully agree that popular election of senators was a mistake. I disagree with your first point.

Our representatives are no longer representative. How can they be? They represent too many people? They arent close enough to their constituents to truly understand their interests.

I was just pondering how messed up things are now and wondering if the shoe doesn`t fit anymore. As for solutions ,,that is over my pay grade I`m afraid. Just wondering how my son is going to deal with the mess I left him.

The problem is not that the senators and congress represent too many people, the problem is that the senators and congress vote they way the lobbyist and special interest pay them to vote, our votes dont count anymore and we PAY them to do it!

Crack down on gerrymandering; if the politicians can't design a method that apportions reps into well behaved districts, I can.

Hell, if we had more of them they'd demand a new Capitol Building........the cost overruns would be horrendous.

Concur.  We need to sack those in Congress right now.  No more career politicians.

Give selection of Senators back to the state.  Have one Representative for each county.  If you recall the red/blue map by county that map shows that there would never be a Dem majority in the House.

Before Reynolds v. Sims and Baker v. Carr one Senator per county in the state Senate was normal.

What are the names of your Legislators and if you walked into their office right now would they recognize you?
