The entire country has slowed to a crawl on mail and even priority mail.

Mail sitting in one location for 3 days at a hub?

Mail not updating tracking info at all?

I deal with customers all over the country and this is nation wide.

I had a customer send a payment by priority mail from Va to Pa, 6 days?

Another one was a package we sent to Md, took 5 days priority mail.

Something is going on with them.

At least they are not as bad as the South African post office.  I have been waiting for a package of ebola, but they have been on strike since mid-August.

I have a friend that works for the post office. He says there are 5 gallon pails of mail not being delivered on time, on purpose. Something about union/supervisors problems. One bucket contained a letter from a college for his son. He missed is campus tour. He was not happy.

Isolated incidents.

For real though, I'm the station manager for a USPS THSS. Essentially we are a contract company who moves mail between USPS and FedEx who carries priority and express mail. Ask what you want.

If it hits our system it gets moved, personally my floor is clear every day and has been for the last 4 years I've been here, except for those times where blizzards shut down the roads.

I think what's going on is a surreptitiously soft strike by both USPS management and labor. They will work... but just barely. They will deliver mail... whey they get around to it.

I'm tired of waiting two weeks for a Priority Mail package. I'm tired of getting mail for six people on my street that I end up having to re-deliver myself.

It's not just the typical government union ineptitude. They are deliberately fucking us over.

Consider this. It's what 50¢ or so for the first class stamp anywhere in the US with USPS.

Go to the UK, which is the size of MI , and they will charge you $1 to send a letter in just that small area and have the same problems USPS does.

yep. I sent a money order out via priority mail. To TX generally takes 2 days, especially since im close to Philly. So it should have been there Wed, its now out for delivery today. 2 days longer then it should have taken.

It is the post office...example of how big .gov handles business.  I hope they completely go under myself.  Went to the post office yesterday to send a package and cash a $30 MO and was told they didn't have the money to do so.  After shipping they owed me $15 and change.  Seriously?  They had been open 2.5 hours when I went and they couldn't cough up $15 bucks?

It's not even just the system. My mailman constantly delivers my shit to another house around the corner. I've literally lost those packages because the mailman won't take responsibility and the people at the house won't return it or say they don't have it.
I know he delivered my shit there because it even matches the description of the location that he left the package according to the shipping manifest.

I mean how could you have left it on my back porch when I don't even have a front porch let alone a back....

It's constant blame play with USPS. All the mail processed but not on trucks? That's a transportation problem us processors did our job. Mail not processed in time? Sort machine had problems.

Hey contract driver, we know you only get paid for the 80 mile trip but you should divert to city X and get some mail 40 miles out of the way. No? Mail contractor failure.

The post office sees things as solve my work, and if it makes a problem for someone else, that's their problem. I don't care about the mail, and I don't care about USPS, I canre about my deadlines and making sure the floor if clear, even if it means I do my job wrong just to get my job done.

Mine got returned because the package was "undeliverable as addressed" called the USPS and verified the address and a week later it was delivered. Can you imagine what a package that went from Oklahoma to North Dakota 2 times looks like.

Just so you all know. The problem is that there is no overtime. Not for clerks or carriers unless it's absolutely nessasary. They are giving maintenance very little except where it's really needed. My old office in White Plains is giving it's electronic technicians 12 hours a day, 7 days a week if they want it. Some of the guys I worked with are taking home  +7K every two weeks.

Delivery standards are being purposly ignored. Something is going on and has been for years. Only the brass is Washington knows for sure and they aren't talking.

MAKE YER FUCKIN' SUBJECT MORE SPECIFIC.

When your subject is just "US Postal System", no one knows whether they want to click on your thread or not, and they don't like to have to click on it to see if it's something they care about.

Meanwhile, I recently had a package shipped by FedEx from Japan.

Total time spent in transit was less than 36 hours - from origin scan to delivery. (With all scans corrected to the same time zone, of course.)

Cost was only ¥2540 - that's about $24 to get a package delivered more or less halfway around the friggin' Earth in less than two days. (And not huge, but not real small either - a little smaller than a USPS medium flat-rate.)

I am a carrier for the USPS. I know first hand how management is. A big problemme delivery wise is that they are making routes longer, and are mad when it takes us longer to finish. I am one of the faster carriers, and we had a route that I could not get done untill 7pm if I ran it off as fast as I could, with no nreaks.

I'm not sure who said they are not giving overti.e, we are all on forced overtime where I am at. 6 days a week, soon to be 7 with amazon packages on Sunday, so there goes my only day off. Also amazon fresh or whatever they call it might start here soon, so my new start time will be 2am, deliver groceries, get back and put my mail in order for my route and  then deliver itit.

Anyway, management does hold mail, specifically packages. It's not visible to me, but I know it goes on

I hate to hijack OPs thread, but I had a question for the mail and delivery people (that would help me solve a huge problem) and I was wondering if someone could help me out.

About two months ago, I sent a defective piece of phone equipment back to at&t using their prepaid, pre-addressed label.  It was smartpost.  I went to the postoffice on Tuesday to find out why it's tracking information indicated that it had been "picked up" on August 8, but never delivered.  The USPS said they keep those packages in their annex until the contracted company picks them up (the tracking information indicated that it left the PO on that date).  The guy at the PO said that I would have to bring a picture of the label in for someone to try to identify what company it went with, but I haven't got around to it yet.

AT&T charged us $100 for the item from the time they shipped it out and won't take the charge off until they get the defective piece of equipment back.  I can't start hunting down where it is until I figure out what company is supposed to have it, which I don't know how to do from the shipping label alone.    I'd really appreciate it if someone could identify what company is supposed to be handling it.

Pics of the label are below.  The only reason I took pics of it was because the AT&T tech support guy on the phone strongly suggested that I do so, lest I be responsible for the cost of the equipment if it never got there.

Thanks so much in advance

God bless SmartPost (c).  They're the fastest delivery service ever.  I've never been disappointed with the delivery times of motherf*(king smartpost   (Sarcasm off)

I decided to google the zipcode on the label picture.  My att package was handed off to a company called "newgistics" (may fuck be upon them).  It was delivered to them in August.
I'm so glad that companies have started using hybrid postal service deliveries.  My mother is, too, especially since she called at&t about this a month ago and spoke to an obnoxious member of the dindu tribe, who told her that "att wasn't UPS or usps, and that it was our problem if it didn't get there" and hung up the phone on her.  I was in the same room as her when that phone call happened, and she was nothing but nice to the woman she spoke to.  That was real nice, especially since frigging att couldn't tell me the company that handled or received their return service packages so that I could try to straighten this matter out myself.

May fuck be upon at&t, newgistics, and the USPS--especially--for suggesting that hybrid delivery services were a good idea.  I'm so glad they gave us a pre-filled out label addressed to a semi-cryptic entity.  It was much easier sending it back that way instead of paying $6 for priority mail, myself, and just being able to file a lost parcel claim for the value of the item instead of screwing around with it like this.

It got to where it was supposed to be 7 days after I dropped it off.
Because of using "newgistics," the usps tracking number still indicates that it hasn't been delivered yet (ie, it says that it is in transit) if I check the number using usps' website.
I had to find the tracking page on newgistics' webpage and input the USPS number there in order to see that it had been delivered.
This package has been delivered since August 13.  AT&T says they still haven't received it, and they have kept a $100 charge on our bill since then.
I don't know if At&t has live phone operators available on a Saturday.  On weekdays, live operators aren't available after 5 or 6 pm.  If they do, I'll call them and insist that they remove the charge "immediately" (a few business days).
It would have been nice if someone had noted somewhere in the materials they sent to us that you couldn't track the package all the way to it's destination by using the USPS tracking number.

Here's what Cliff Clavin and CO. say about my package's current location:

The entire country has slowed to a crawl on mail and even priority mail.

Mail sitting in one location for 3 days at a hub?

Mail not updating tracking info at all?

I deal with customers all over the country and this is nation wide.

I had a customer send a payment by priority mail from Va to Pa, 6 days?

Another one was a package we sent to Md, took 5 days priority mail.

Something is going on with them.
Yeah, they are Union.
and government run.  if they go over budget, they just get more money the next year.  if they were an actual business, they would've failed long ago.

Actually it was Congress that started screwing up the USPS.

I hate to hijack OPs thread, but I had a question for the mail and delivery people (that would help me solve a huge problem) and I was wondering if someone could help me out.

Thanks so much in advance

I follow the situation now, luft.  Thanks for clarifying.

What a clusterfuck.  But thanks for letting me know.  I'll remember that name, Newgistics and never use them!
