Folks like Joe Manchin keep saying they want background checks for internet gun purchases. Why do they continue to put internet sale UBC at the top of the list. Are they doing this just to appeal to the low-information voters, is Manchin plain stupid, or is there something I am missing? (I know you can ship guns intrastate person-to-person without background checks- but anybody that does that and ships is taking a big chance of an ATF sting.)
I have talked to more than a few people - that I used to think were intelligent- that think that anybody can just order a gun over the internet and have it delivered to their door. Is that what most persons that don't purchase guns think? |

Is that what most persons that don't purchase guns think? I could be mistaken, but I think the laws being talked about would target the people who advertise their gun for sale on the internet, and then meet up in person to sell the gun face to face (to avoid transferring from FFL to FFL). They are trying to redefine this as a "commercial sale" because it's one stranger selling to another thus needing a background check (in their eyes). Which would be different than someone selling a gun to their friend - at least in the law that got struck down. So when they say, "internet sales", I think this is what they mean but what it ends up doing is making stupid people out there think you can buy an AR over the internet like a t-shirt from Amazon and have it arrive at your doorstep tomorrow without going through any sort of legal process or background check. |

I have idea where Manchin falls in the crowd, but yes some politicians are very ignorant about the things they wish to legislate. On the other hand there are those who intentionally try to scare the public by spreading shit they know is not true - Charles Shumer being a good example of that.

Most politicians are ignorant about the very subject matter they are attempting to regulate. Recall the Senator who thought the Internet could be shut off, because "it's just a bunch of tubes and stuff." Or the Congresswomen, I think, would didn't know that you could reload magazines. The one who said that supply of "high cap" magazines would diminish as people used them and threw them out.... |

We'll just go ahead and let her think that...no reason we shouldn't take advantage of them for once |
