Just for anybody who kept up last time, I had left for Ft. Benning in February for OSUT, but fractured my leg in three places (stress fractures, pretty bad ones). Anyway, they sent me home on convalescent leave and I got to spend almost a month healing up with my wife in Hawaii (at her father's place on Oahu). I then left and returned to Benning and a couple of weeks ago, graduated from OSUT as an 11Bravo and have now completed my first week of Airborne school. Two more to go and then it's back to AK. (I'm National Guard) I'll be home until March and then (word on the street) my unit is deploying to Afghanistan. *UPDATE* Sounds like there may not be a deployment so soon after all. *update 2, confirmed no deployment* I'm not one to call attention to myself, but I have to say I am more proud of this than anything I've ever done. At 33 years old, it meant a lot to me to get this far and to know that I'll finish Airborne School and go on to fight for my country, it really is the best thing (second only to marrying my wife) I've ever done. Anyway, thanks for those of you who wished me well and sent their support. It really meant a lot to me. *Update 2* 31AUG2008 Definitely not deploying in March, so I'll have some time to knock out more schools and spend time at home with my wife, which is always good. Also, I graduated BAC and got my blood wings! Feel pretty good about that. What a ride those three weeks were! Jumping out of an airplane goes against every survival instinct you have wired into your circuits, overriding those instincts really takes a lot, between trusting your training, your gear, the cadre, and having faith that you're going to be okay. And still, it was a struggle. But I never once got shoved out, always jumped on my own... You guys have gotta try it some day, what a rush!!! |

Congratulations! Now beat your boots. Watch yourself. Last time that I remember someone posting from jump school, he mouthed off about how easy it was. Another member turned out to be a company commander there, and he let the black hats know about it. Anyway, good luck! |
haha, that would suck. But make no mistake, it's not easy, only that I realize I have the guts and heart to go on even when my body says to quit. I've never been challenged like this before, so it's pretty liberating to be able to push through it when it hurts or I feel like I'm going to fall over dead. Thanks all! |

congrats and good luck. if my ballz were as big as yers I'd get a job displaying them at the daniel boone festival each year. for a fee of course. just remember, dont worry about the chute, if the chute fails, the instructor will fix it once he's down on the ground with you. |
Sounds good to me, though I think the day I graduate, they're going to put me on a bus and send me to the Airport. Not sure how that part works yet. You guys just got back from the sandbox, didn't you? Either way, thanks! |
Congrats cherry! My mother came to my graduation.. she gave me my "bloodwings" |
Congrats cherry.
