It looks like my GPU just shit the bed. I'm somewhat clueless when it comes to picking the parts out. Any ideas for a GPU upgrade? Anything else I should update?

Are you a gamer or just browsing and work? That's not that much RAM and that card was quite old.

General desktop use and some gaming at 1080p,  GTX 1060 or even GTX 960 if you can get one cheap.

I do some gaming for sure but I don't need anything crazy.

I was thinking about going to 16G of RAM as well

Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB.

Something like this:

You are at the point though where you should be doing a rebuild/new build.  So I would just get the video card for now and do a new build in a few months rather than trying to upgrade anything elese on your current system.

Most games are still very much GPU bound, especially if you purchased a good CPU from the get go, as you did.

I'd definitely get a 16GB ram kit if your getting close under use, and get a GTX-1060 or 1070. They're great cards and super power efficient.

Personally, I'd go with the GTX-1070. You'll get more years out of 8GB video memory (compared to the 1060's 6GB or 3GB) and the 1070 can even run games @ 4K (with some settings reduced). I'm running one with a 2560x1600 monitor and I'm stupid happy with it.
