[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Using fallen comrades as cover? (Page 1 of 3)

Next in my Devil's Advocate series of questions on the ethics and morality of war is this one from NTC:
1. If your battle buddy stops a round and checks out on you in the middle of an engagement, is it ok to prop up his mortal remains in such a way that he and his armor protect you while you return fire? 2. If you saw someone using his fallen comrade as a shield, would you think less of him or would you applaud his tenacity? Question inspired by an OC at NTC who zapped me with his God gun when he observed me firing from behind a (notionally) deceased teammate. I argued that any extra stuff between me and incoming is good, and that my dead battle buddy had taken one bullet for me and wouldn't be any deader if he took a few more. The OC was not amused. What says the hive? |
| Shitty thing to have happen, but war is really shitty all around. If it means you can manage to survive your fallen buddy is still helping you out. He's already dead but he can still enable others to live if the shit hits the fan hard enough to break it off the ceiling. |

I have no military experience, and give my thanks to those who have honorably served.
If I were to die in some violent event, and friends/family/battle buddy were able to use my body as some protection that enabled them to live, I'd like to think my spirit would smile down (or up) at them. If my death afforded them a chance at life, then it was not in vain. |

I would hope, if I were KIA, that my friends would use my body as cover if that were the only thing available to them. It's not like it might make me MORE dead. If I can contribute to the fight even after I am departed, I'm good with it. That's what I figured. |

Sounds like one of those things that would be frowned on in training (for morale reasons I'd guess) but less so in actual combat. For practical purposes if that's all you've got use it but if the enemy got zeroed in on your battle buddy it stands to reason they would be zeroed in on you too, so getting out of the area should be a high priority... | If I were to catch a round and be dead but my body could help win the fight or protect the people I was in the fight with then I would feel very honored to know that even though I was gone my body was able to help take down a few more of the bastards who killed me. |

Some OCs are just assholes...I was an augmentee OC at JRTC for a month and if it made sense based on the given situation I'd pretty much say do whatever it takes to repel the initial attack and find the best cover you can in that moment. If that means taking cover behind your fallen buddy then so be it...why the fuck would you want to create two casualties for your SQD to EVAC?
I hate miles gear by the way
