Just go down to Orange Beach and relax for a few days. Take a day and go to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. That's what I'd do but I'm broke.

I was up there toward the end of June last year. Stayed outside of Missoula off Rock Creek Road, in Lolo Nat'l Forest in a B&B with the wife. We did lots of hiking, went to Glacier twice (awesome park), went to Garnett Ghost town, panned for saphires like total tourists in Phillipsburg, ate a lot, and visited the coolest gun shop ever up there. It was called Axmen Firearms in Missoula.   Great store, lots of guns and nice people.  Now I'm really sad.................

Do what I do. Go to the Survival forum and organize a camp out.

Nothing like sleeping out in the open under the stars with nothing but the basics.

I know you've BTDT, but a weekend at Gulf schores is always nice.

Now, when you go through the tunnel eastbound on I-10, then cross the bay, as you get across the bay you can see that lttle seafood place off to the right, facing west across the bay...what's it called? Take the family to eat there.

Yeah, that sounds fun to me.

Colorado has some great national parks as well, but Montana is much better because there isn't some big assed, more money than God aspen type town around every turn of the corner.

The folks up here, crazy as they may be (see: unabomber), still make their living the hard way.

There is like 1/100th the people in the winter and summer months too.

Damn, i was hoping someone wouldn't ask that question.

I live in Butte. It is a shit hole of a town. It's an old mining town that went downhill. My favorite chinese resturant used to be an old brothel!!!

I love it though, but i am not a city person.

Extra 4 bunks? hell you can rent a house up here for next to nothing. In fact, there is a house down the street right now that has 3 bed rooms and is fully furnished for like $450 a month. And it is one of the nicer ones too!

Rent a houseboat or mountian cabin and veg out!  Away from everything, let's the stress flow away like water off glass.

I'd have to say i have succesfully hi-jacked this thread.

Gunsforhire---
Butte isn't a bad place to stay for a week, as hotels are cheap (usually). Its close to alot of things to do.

Fishing
Hunting
Camping
Hiking
Snowmobiling---(renting too.)
Skiing
Just about whatever you would want to do in the mountains.

I have been to Butte...it seemed nice to me..dont remember much as I only stopped to go to the Post office..then I was on up the interstate to the Prison to serve an extradition warrant..So it wasn't much of a vacation at the time...Seemed like a quiet little town and nice place to live...correct me if Im wrong but it is pretty much in central MT right? When does the snow set in??

The people here are pretty trashy. Its kinda like being at a gun show 24/7. The town is old and i like the town itself, but the people are dicks (a lot of them anyways). I shoulda clarified that, sorry.

It is in southwestern Montana, not so much central. The snow starts coming in as early as september, and stays as late April.

It's not so much the snow, its the -30 degree temps when the winter really starts rollin'

I'll leave this as my piece of advice -

Go somewhere where you'll do LESS than what you do in your daily routine.

I agree totally...I would be content with a cabin, fishing pole and small stream or pond...My better half wants the other side of the spectrum.. then there is my kids ...maybe i'll send them off and I can vacation here at home...maybe hit the gun show circus around the states locally....NOW THERES AN IDEA..

I would suggest saphire beach on St. Thomas. You can then catch a ferry to St. John. Also boat rentals can take you to any o the other VI's, US and British.
