to subscribe to some service, kind of like satellite radio? |

Some have active weather overlay, construction alerts, accident alerts, delays, etc....you will need a subscription service for that. I opted not to get the factory installed navigation system in my new car, I find them to be over priced. It is nice to have them dash mounted, sure, but the cost on some...like my car, to get the upgraded entertainment system (just the radio, no DVD or anything) which included the GPS/ NAV was close to $2,000.00 more. It didn't do anything a Tom Tom (or SIC), or an Android/ iPhone GPS can do. |

My '09 F150 came with the Sony Nav unit. For just the nav part there is no fee, for the Sirius Travel Link, which has weather map, sports scores, gas prices, etc there is a fee in addition to the Sirius radio.
I bought mine used and I guess I'm still on the other owner's dime for the Sirius, I have no ideal when it will end and I'm not going to call them to find out. I figure I will make up my mind about Sirius when or if the subscription is turned off. |

They are nice to have in the dash built in, but good god the ones that Dodge and Mercedes puts in their cars are horrible. A 100 dollar Garmin is much better. |

the nav system in my 07 highlander is the stupidest GPS I've ever seen. It can get me from my office to my home, sort of, but I have to find my own way to and from the main roads and it's divided into regions of the USA so if I want to go from MD to CO I have to do it in at least two steps form one region to the next. WTF?

I have a 2004 Lincoln Navigator, I pulled the factory nav out as soon as I got it and put a Pioneer Z110BT DVD/Nav unit in. I did it as an op center for my car entertainment system though, not for the Nav. The NAV on the Pioneer is horrible also. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Google maps on my DROID X. I have nice looking cell phone mounts in each of my cars and use the DroidX for maps, streaming pandora, etc. Now I am in the market for an ASUS Transformer or other ANDROID Tablet... I just need a car mount for it and THAT will be my GPS and infotainment epicenter!!

lol. i was coming in here to mention how happy i am with the navigation on my z110bt Funny! 
While the PIO is better by orders of magnitude than the factory nav, I am just SOOO spoiled by google maps on the Droid! Almost all of my address entry is by voice. I can also just say "Call Domino's" and it will call the nearest domino's! Without it being in my phone! I can also just say "Navigate to Best Buy" for example and it will bring up thenearest Best Buy and start navigation! And it is ALWAYS current.
