I busted the screen of my smart phone, so I need a new one. It is more than 2 years old and out of contract. If I upgrade my existing line, I am not able to use any coupon codes (worth about 50 bucks in this case). If I cancel my current line while simultaneously adding a new line, I can use the coupon. The only problem is they want to run new credit checks, and it is a huge pain in the ass. They won't just apply the dang coupon.
Anyone have any tips to get the best deal when upgrading cellphones? |

I just upgraded my phone a month or two ago. First, before buying it online or in store, compare which phones are free from each. For some odd reason, certain phones were free online for me, but in the store the would have cost me $100. I was also on a grandfathered in unlimited data plan, and expected to switch. I was attempting to make a few different changes to my account at the same time, and ended up having to call 3 separate times to get the upgrade activated, and only on the third time did the lady on the other end put me on hold for a second, and then come back to say she could transfer my plan over and I could keep unlimited data. To sum it up, call and ask if you can keep unlimited. If not, make an excuse and say you'll activate tomorrow, call back and ask the next person. Hopefully you'll get to keep it. |
