Looking at getting one, really liked my Nintendo 64 years ago with the Star Wars and goldeneye games.
Some of today's stuff may be too complicated for a 50 year old man, so keep it simple. |

I just ordered this guy. It plays the original NES and Super NES. There is a market that makes new NES games. Kinda cool.

If you're gonna be playing casual video games I would say get a console either ps4 or Xbox one and get fallout, call of duty, battlefield, tomb raider
If you put them on easy mode you'll be fine. My dad is 57 and has beaten all the call of duties , battlefields and tomb raiders |

If you haven't played video games in a while, I wouldn't get any "multiplayer" games for a bit, or at least make sure the games you buy that are "multiplayer" also have a single player storyline.
Today's multiplayer video gaming can be intimidating for older people. |

Yeah a PS4 and those games are going to going to give you a seizure. Get a PS2 or 3 and hit your local game store for some used games. What kinda stuff do you like? A cheap computer can get you in to a lot of stuff. Why recommend worse stuff? OP they are selling Xbox ones and ps4's for around 300 bucks at costco. Xbox comes with star wars game. |

I didn't try running a new game yet with my router shut off, but either way, mildly annoying, but not overly complicated once you get used to it. PS4 seems even more complicated with the user account stuff, but that's because I don't have one, and watch my friend juggle that stuff on his. I let him pick the game, exit it, etc. Xbox one you'll have to download every game you buy, and sometimes you'll find you can't play a game you've already been playing for awhile because it wants you to download yet another upgrade. Modded original xbox's are great if you can find one loaded with games. I have one with nearly all the Atari, NES, SNES, PS1, Genesis, Master System, and N64 games. Probably some others in there, but mine quit registering the controlers, so I need to fix it. Or, pick up an old N64. It will take some adjustments on the tv if you're using a new LCD or something. Super Mario bros on my NES as almost unplayable on my LCD until I figured out that 'motion smoothing' stuff was on, and was causing a delay in what I was seeing. |

I suggest an Xbox One. You can watch videos about the latest big games and decide if they are for you. Black Ops III and Halo 5 have a moderately useful "solo" mode that lets you play the story line. If it's too "hard" just drop down to novice level or whatever. In those modes, the AI is slower, your shots do much more damage and you're much more bullet resistant.
Also, the XB1 has a lot of independent games, and they are much, much more varied. World of Tanks is available, and many more are side-scrolling platformers. Some are more strategy based, some are puzzle type games and there's also a lot of old-school shooter games like Space Invaders/Galaga You will need a decent internet connection 5MB or preferably 10+MB and a yearly Xbox Live subscription. Games are free (one or two per month with your XBL subscription) to about $20.00 for the indie games. |
