Tag to watch later.

The Typhoon class subs are one of the coolest things ever made in my book.

Can you launch an ICBM horizontally?

Sure. Why would you want to?

The most shocking thing I noticed wasnt about the sub. It was their standard of living shown at the end. The capt lived in what looks like section 8 housing, and this was shot in 2002 or so!

Typhoon is the largest submarine in the world.  You can almost put 2 Ohio class subs side by side in one.  They have/had the highest thrust of any sea craft.  I used to know all the stats on this and all the worlds submarines.  Was my job in the Navy.  BTW they are not as quiet as they think

Isn't their width basically like having two sub hulls welded together?

Yes it has the two pressure hulls connected with passageways inside the larger outer hull.  2 hull construction is common in Russian subs.  Especially the ones that spend most of their time under the ice.  The outer hull is also a standoff to conventional torpedoes.

They may be bigger than an Ohio class, but the Ohio class still carries more missiles.

I thought the little tiny swimming pool (at least one had) quite the touch.

Clapped together piles of barely-adequate shit like everything else the Russians make.

That's what happens when people live within their means, instead of getting loans for 30 years which they can't afford. Looks can be deceiving.

Having wine onboard surprised me, does the US have wine onboard? Does the US have any alcohol onboard?

The U.S. Navy is a "dry" navy.

The U.S. Navy is a "dry" navy.

In theory

As long as the Chiefs Mess and JO staterooms don't count. Hehe.

I kid, I kid. Sort of.

We always had beer aboard; you would get two after so many consecutive days at sea. On USS Shreveport we had "beer on the pier" while in Haifa, Israel. We were restricted from going into town because
Rabin had just been assassinated. I have no idea what the alcohol policy is in today's "zero deffects" Navy.

I was aboard a "research" vessel in the sealift command, the Corey Chouest for 90 days.  Pretty much civilian vessel.  Had a Brit ship give the Captain 5 cases of beer for the crew.  He dumped it all overboard.  Didn't bother me too much, don't drink.

I'm curious about this part, too.

The end was fairly sobering.  I was very happy for the chief engineer, but the Captain and XO's homecoming really took the wind out of the sails.

My wife translated for me.  Se says the XO's wife was pissed that it took him three hours to get home.  She was also pissed about the film crew, and told him (her husband) that he should go away.
