I am a complete computer moron (and pretty much an anything else moron too).

How do you convert video (primarily commerical DVDs) to the format used on a video IPOD ? I want to take my own DVDs and watch them on my Video IPOD.

What specific software do you use ?
Is encryption an issue ?
Is there anything else required to do this besides a software package ?

ImToo, it's available in several different packages.

They charge for it... you don't have to pay for it if you use criminal,  and basically unsavory file-sharing programs.  Don't think Interpol and the FBI isn't watching.

Remember, if you download pirated programs, you're downloading Communism.

There's a great freeware program out there.

It's something like Idora or Adora or something that looks or sounds like that name. I use to use it when i downloaded videos to my ipod.

HandBrake works pretty good but I've found the Windows version to be difficult - the Mac version (original) is much much better.

There's a process to it, if you'd like to go the free/shareware route. You can find it on most iPod modding forums.

So there is no issue with encryption or copy protection in copying the commercial DVD movies THAT I BOUGHT AND OWN using that software package ?

I am not interested in downloading movies from some on-line source. Only in converting movies I bought on DVD for use on my IPOD.
