We had an out of state "Brother" come to our Lodge last night.  He stated he was traveling on business, but he didn't have a dues card.  Stuff happens, so the Secretary brings him to me and I decide to examine him.

He got the DG's and S's all goofed up.  Likewise the G's and he couldn't remember all the W's.  And the ones he did were for the wrong degrees.  He stated he was the JD of his lodge.  But, he didn't know the JD's duties.  He recited the T's and was sure they were the duties in his jurisdiction.  Nor did he even know the JD's jewel.  I had the gut feeling he had tried to remember things he read on the internet and his memory sucked.  Needless to say, he went on down the road.

Just a word to the wise.  They're out there.

We had a guy try to sneak in by dropping the GM's name.  Unfortunately for him the GM was in our lodge that night.  He came downstairs and said he had no idea who the guy was.  We sent him on his way.

I went to a Lodge out of state one time and I made them examine me. I was a little offended that they just wanted to let me right in.

I mean, I know I'm charismatic.....but they still gotta try me.

I visited a degree day for a different Valley.  I went to the registration table to check in and told them I was a visitor from another Valley, they gave me the third degree, dues card (Blue and SR) then asked me a few things from the 32.  I was still getting the stink eye (little uncomfortable) until the local DDGM and President of the District came up and talked to me (know them from work).  Definitely did not feel the masonic brotherhood. But several of the older members took to me right away asking about how things are done in our Valley.  This experience made me even more dedicated to welcoming to visiting brothers.
