Got notice several weeks ago that I had to attend a Two Day Training Course on Weapons of Mass Destruction
I confirmed my dates yesterday and wil be attending April 18th & 19th
The class was originally supposed to be held at the local ( Bethpage ) Fire Training Academy but has alreday been moved to onsite at the Jail, Nassau County Sherrif's / Police Academy

Don't know exactly what the class is going to cover, basically what I understand is that the Feds allocated some Money for additional training for Officers that operate primarily outside the Jail Compound

Anyone else receive such Training ?

Are you getting any new equipment?  The COBRA training I received came with a 'goodies' bag with a Millenium Mask, a Tyvex suit, some respirators, escape hood, first aid kit, eye wash,....too much to list

We watch some training films, suited up in practice suits, and did some senerios.  Wish for a cool dry day.

I don't know I gotta talk to one of the instructors. Supposedly all the Members of the Cert Team got issued Masks awhile back. ( I'm not a member of the Cert Team )
My Dept numbers around 1100 or and I'd say maybe 200 people are gonna attend the two day class.
Each day can be different for me , sometimes I'm outside all day but usually anything past 4pm and I'm in the building. Most of my time is spent at the former County Hospital next to the Jail.
I guess they figure those of us who work outside might have a chance of responding to an emergency involving WMD.
Today for example I worked 12 hours 8am -8pm and I was in the building for probably 4 hours.

Again the County doesn't want to spend anymore than they have to on training, the only reason we're getting this training is because the feds ponied up.

I went through the TERT class at Anniston, AL.  Highly cool training, and world class facilities.

The way of Nassau!

That's really the only time we get training and gear.

The DHS sends us to WMD courses in Vegas and Honolulu. I need to sign up for it sometime. I hear nothing but positives about it.

Most of our patrol officers were also issued NBC gear by DHS a couple years back. Came in a good sized black nylon duffle. Some of us have not retrained on its use since then (luckily I'm also an AF Reservist and retrain on it consistently).

Well I went thru the course this week basically a familiarization of equipment and awareness of different scenarios

Alot of the stuff I had already gone over in the military many years ago

However I enjoyed the opportunity to to go thru it

I hope we never have an NBC attack anywhere here in the US

Yeah by NBC attack I don't mean some guy mailing it in letters or packages
I'm hoping we never get an attack like the one in Japan w/ Sarin in the Subway

A release of Sarin or Ricin or something similar in NYC / or another crowded Metro area would be chaos
