It has been a century since the war to end all wars started.
Here is my 1/32 Roland D VI not perfect, but my first WWI biplane. I still have lots of rigging to do.

It looks wonderful.

I have never done any ww1 model... Which is strange since I did hundreds of models

That is beautiful.  Well done.

When I was a teen I had a copy of 'Rickenbacker' I read several times. As a result I have always wanted to build a model of the Spad XIII he flew near the end of the war. The 92nd Aero Sqdn started out in Nieuports but these had the unfortunate habit of shedding their wing fabric during strenuous dogfighting.

1/32?   Psshhhhhhaaa

Kidding, nice job.

How about 1/2 scale?
High school student built.

Really great build!  Did you use Bob's Buckles for the rigging or go from scratch?  I have a huge stash of WWI planes waiting- was thinking of starting with a DH2.

it's fucking gorgeous.  I'm 43 and still have the hands but not the eyes...ordered the progressive lenses a week ago.

do you do any model forums? fine scale modeler?

good luck with tension on that string...looks like a dang sailing ship model's worth.

5 bucks says I'm sitting on arfcom's biggest collection of unbuilt 1/32 and 1/24 polystyrene helos...just sitting there awaiting my estate settlement or my retirement.

thanks for posting!

Awesome
I love pre-WWI aviation but have never managed anything other than a mobile made with Revell 1/72 biplanes.

The Hasegawa museum kits are what I dream about but the skill just ain't there.

I am a styrene/plastic model builder.

What are those kits like?? All wood? Do you essentially get some wood pieces and cut/sand/fit per directions? Or are they pre-cut and sized and you simply assemble like plastic?

How does the fabric covering work on the winds and those planes with fabric/dope fuselages?

Neat.

I've got several WW I balsa models waiting to be built.  Mostly for RC (electric but do have a 1/4 scale Balsa USA SE-5a).
Small companies that laser cut parts are the way to go if you want to build.  Some of the best offerings are
manzano laser cutters
aerodrome rc. (They have a good forum site too, but not as active since they only sell the plans now - the laser cut kits can be bought from manzano)
Just1morekit
Many of these are not too expensive.  I do not care for the chinese built ARFs, I'd rather build my own, even if my time is limited for that.

Then there are the proctor kits - super detailed but very expensive with all the pre made metal fittings for the rigging.
Balsa USA makes several large scale models, and there is a designer in england named Mick Reeves who has some really nice plans (kits and parts too, but probably very expensive to ship to the USA) of various Sopwith WW I aeroplanes, mostly large scale.

The tissue (smaller  rc models silkspan if you can find it anymore, or polyspan for up to mid-sized like 1/6 scale) is applied by brushing dope on the frame, then for polyspan, tacking it down with an iron.  The silkspan is applied wet land jap tissue would be the same for rubber FF models.  Some people have used glue stick.  By why miss out on nitrate dope?  Butyrate can shrink too much as it dries and damage the framework.  It sticks very well.  However I haven't built a scale undercambered wing yet, only flatbottom airfoils with silkspan but that worked well.  You can paint on many different types of paint over the nitrate doped fabric.
RCGroups has some good build threads in the elecric scale/scratchbuilt forum of many WW I RC models.

That is also I nice looking Roland model.  Wingnut Wings from NZ (I think Peter Jackson is a owner of the company) has a large selection of WW I plastic models in 1/32 scale.

Nice work. I went through a period of building 1/72 scale WW1 airplanes. For rigging I used dental floss, the kind that seperates into extremely thin, strong strands.

The OP's talent and skills are fantastic and it is much more time consuming and difficult to build than to criticize. Having said that, should the tires be so shiny? They reflect light in the photos. Or are they painted for a diorama perhaps that has morning dew on the grass runway?

Beautiful model. My comment is not intended to denigrate.
