Hillary is going to be on the ballot? What was the point of the primaries? Has this ever happened before? WTF? I'm just . . . baffled. Is there something I'm not getting? Don't get me wrong - I think it's AWESOME (split vote and all that). But seriously, WTF? And how could the democrats be so stupid? |

politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ Clinton's name will be put in nomination at convention Posted: 01:15 PM ET From CNN's John King, Jessica Yellin and Candy Crowley Clinton will get a vote at the convention.' (CNN) — The presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton announced Thursday that Senator Hillary Clinton’s name will be placed into nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. "Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November," said the campaigns in a joint statement. "They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. "To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama's and Senator Clinton's names will be placed in nomination." The release said Obama’s campaign encouraged the move to promote party unity, and recognize Clinton's status as the first woman to compete in every presidential primary. “I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton's historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” said Obama in the statement, which also quoted Clinton saying that “with every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again.” A Democratic source with knowledge of the discussions says that the process was not a negotiation – that both sides came to a mutual decision that the move was the best path. A Democratic Party operative familiar with convention plans says the move would bring "peace in the kingdom." The source adds that the Obama campaign "always knew it would probably have to happen." "They have known since the day she dropped out that she wanted this 'for history,'" says the operative. The announcement follows a string of recent reports that die-hard supporters of Hillary Clinton were planning to protest in Denver if her name were not placed into nomination, and a roll call vote held that would allow the New York senator's delegates to vote for her If this happens, Clinton will not be the first woman to have her name placed in nomination for president at a major party convention. Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith was placed in nomination at the 1964 Republican convention, and New York Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm was placed in nomination at the 1972 Democratic convention. OK, so she's not on the final ballot? But still, if they're going to vote for their presidential nominee, what was the point of the primaries? |
|
this is going to be like when senator palpatine became the Emporer in episode III, except that this will be awesome And the dems will probably end up having a clone war over it and then we'll have to go back in time to see how this turns out, since the original story takes place before this part of the story, but technology wasnt available back in the 70's to tell this part of the story yet then there will be balance to the force i need an ice cream sammich |
Ahh, convention ballet. That's part of the stuff that make life worth living. They have to have her on there, she never conceded, only suspended her campaign. Like she said, hey look at what happened to Bobby Kennedy, anything is possible before the convention! |
If this primary season has taught you anything, it should be that the Democrats don't have any rules or regulations to their primaries, I think they just make them up as they go, and change and forget about the ones they do have at their convenience to help them at any given moment. This does not come as any surprise to me! |
That made me laugh! Especially the first part! |
you can count on it.....let's see 1)Proof Obama's birth certificate was forged 2)some infedelity scandle 3)Proof he's a Muslim 4)Obama meets tragic accident You can bet she's got some dirt on him, just waiting to be revieled at the right time. |
When you vote in a primary you're not really voting for a candidate. You are instead voting for a delegate who is supposed to attend the convention to vote for the candidate you selected BUT the delegate is under no obligation to do so. This is why folks are expecting the Democrat Convention to be interesting... as in, may you live in interesting times... |
I wonder which direction the media wants this to go--- on one hand they want the dems to win in November, but on the other hand I'm not sure they can pass up as juicy of a story as a full blown riot and/or race war at a major party convention If I lived in Denver or within 100 miles I'd be loading mags and making sure my chambers were clean |
|
What can we say? It was comic brilliance. |
I don't think it'll work out the same, it'll be an epic fail. The dems for Obama are going to riot. I do agree that she could pass for the Emperor's double though |
|
Nothing will come of this. The Beast will get a third of the convention votes, her banshees will get their voices heard - and then they'll all join hands and bow down at the annointing of ObamaChristSuperstar and walk out of the convention Stronger, Prouder and Unifiedier. |
Hil's vast left wing media machine is spreading the word that the nomination was stolen from her by Edwards. It's great. The convention will expose a whole raft of nominal Dims for what they really are, and the election even more so. This is better than city hall politics. |
Yeah, that's kind of what i'm hoping for. A dem on dem riot. The rest of us will be able to sit back and watch it all fall apart around them. There will be media coverage of the fail/fallout and there won't be any good reason or excuse for what takes place. This will be followed by a massive round of 'the blame game'. bigger than when they played the game after Katrina Then we'll be able to look at them wilth that 'shame on you' smugness that we've had to endure for too long now |
During the primaries didn't Bill say something about Obama having some damaging secrets? |
|
I've been constantly reminded, during this election year, of just how young many of you are. The conventions used to run 10 to 15 rounds or more ballots. Every state would have some "Favorite Son" to put up for the nomination. So you'd have every cat skinner in the country on the first, second and third ballot at the convention. Then the parties decided this was way too democratic of a way to conduct business and now only allow those who actually have made a run at the primaries to be on the ballot. Delegates have voted against the wishes of the primary results in the past. Hell, there was an electoral college delegate who voted against the wishes of the general elections quite some time ago. It would be really ironic if this "healing moment" turns into a Hilldog nomination. I haven't watched a convention is many, many years. In fact it was probably the '68 DNC since there was no way NOT to watch it. I find it really interesting that Denver is gearing up concentration camp type incarceration for protesters. The hippies and yippies in Chicago were really quite non-violent. Not so of protesters today. If things really heat up, like I think they will, people are going to get killed. Sad to say but that is the type of people who will be in the streets protesting. Do a search for anarchists. They have a shitload of web sites! These are just a few of the people who will be showing up. Clusterfuck doesn't even begin to describe the circus Denver will be. |
5) Profit! The birth certificate thing is getting old. Obama is a commie dirtbag, but I don't think he's dumb enough to torpedo the Democratic party by not being American-born. |
You did! The biggest geek in the world award! ![]() J/K! |
Now THAT'S funny! |
