Had an 02 I believe it was,  way back.  Was the V10 as opposed to the 7.3 or I'd likely still have it.

Long story short looking to find another Excursion but with the diesel.  Meaning 2000 through 2003 if I recall, assuming the 7.3 diesel.

Only heard terrible shit about the 6.0.

Anyone have any thoughts on where to find a decent lower mileage (150k?) 7.3 4x4 Excursion?

Is the smaller Powerstroke as bad as people seem to indicate?

I don't think I could fit one in my parking area... but I still have to admit an attraction to the idea of picking one up too.

Yeah I dig them because they're beasts.  Not a union fan but Ford is the only domestic I'd buy.

Really wanting another one,  just sucks I have to find an 03 or older.

Already 13 plus years old,  hard to find clean low mileage examples.  But I'm on the hunt.

EBay "7.3 Excursion"

Seems to be a dozen or so roughly $15-25k

We have a 2002 Limited 7.3 we bought new.  293,000 miles currently.  Still trucking along.

A clean 7.3 excursion will sell for well above book value so keep that in mind when looking at the price.....that can also make financing tricky, especially on a 15 year old truck.

The 6.0 can be made into a very reliable engine that I'd take over a 7.3. It cost many thousands to get it done though.

search active listings ebay
search completed auctions for ones that didnt sell then email the seller as sometimes they are more eager to sell after ebay told them their car wasn't worth what they thought
search craigslist nationally via www.searchtempest.com

Good luck and my initial thought would be to look in the southern 1/2 of the US mainly more the desert states as they use 4x4 but dont rust.

This is what I've done in the past and yes,  ideally would love a desert truck 100 percent rust free.

If I find the right one I'd do a fly and drive.

There are a few shops taking old excursions and a new f250 quad cab and swapping the excursion body To the new f250 engine and frame and useing all the modern interior too. Retarded amount of money though.

That's cool.  Like how much are we talking?  50 grand?  60? 70?  If it's under $75 is actually a good deal as hell a new Suburban cost 75.

It will need high quality egr and oil coolers, head studs and gaskets, heads checked for cracks, a set of high quality injectors, turbo cleaned and inspected, then you'll have a good engine. Looking at close to $10k if the heads are cracked. The bottom end of a 6.0 is solid and doesn't give many problems even with a ton of miles on them.

Irritating Ford went from such a great motor to such a problem plagued one.

I'd say 90k+ since a new pretty loaded f250 is about 70k and a excursion body anywhere from 8-20k. Cheaper if you already own the truck or excursion.

BS.

I personally know of 5 early ('03-'04) SD's that are knocking on 200k that are bone stock with 0 issues.

The trucks with issues that give them a bad rap are from the brodozers that want to hot rod them...

The only way to fix a 6.0 for sure is to remove it and replace with a Cummins
