Today I was driving along when a car pulls out in front of me. It had some major problems as it was spewing out a massive amount of white smoke. It was so thick I could barley see the car itself! I normally don't get mad driving and keep my cool but I lost it with this one. After being stuck behind this car for a couple miles and not being able to pass or breath for that mater I was pissed! We got stopped at a light and the smoke cleared a bit so I honked and waived my hand as to move the smoke away. The driver just ignored me for the most part. I finally was able to pass this person so I pulled along side and yelled "fix your car". This person who I thought was a high school kid with a mop hair cut turned out to be a women in her 40's maybe. She flips me the bird and yells back something like "your going to pay for my autistic grandchild buddy" and shook her fist. I then yelled to her again "fix your car". I then turned to go on my way.
I never let other drivers get under my skin but this smoke spewing inconsiderate driver did the trick. I feel if you can afford to own a car it should be in proper running condition. I honestly felt sick from breathing those fumes for over 5 minutes. All because she was not considerate enough to make sure her car was not polluting that bad. |

I voted MYOB in this case. Engine problems can come up out of nowhere. Sometimes you don't have 2k extra to buy a new car or fix the one you have. And other times, you can burn rings while driving from A to B. Perhaps she was on that drive.
Had it been your neighbor who had such a car for 3 years in a row, it might be a different story. |

It looked like a Camaro doing a burn out. As another poster stated, it sounds like a blown head gasket or cracked head. What you saw was steam not smoke. |

With a blown head gasket the coolant is being drawn into the effected cylinder (s) on the intake stroke. As someone else noted the engine is not long for this world... |

If your car is doing the equivalent of a "smoke screen" you either fix it in a hurry, or say good bye to your engine in the near future.
Nobody I've known (and I've known some smoky cars in my time) drives like that for fun. They drive like that b/c they can't afford to fix it at the moment. And they know that every mile they drive is slowly killing their car. Because of this, people who have cars like that generally only drive when they absolutely have to, since they have to squeeze every mile out they can. Odds are, you just yelled at someone for having to drive a car that was about to die that they don't have enough money to fix. If that's the case, I'm going to have to disagree with for yelling at them today. It didn't change anything and just made everyone's day worse.
