And 25% more to be EV ready. https://www.q13fox.com/news/council-approves-requirement-for-electric-vehicle-charging-in-new-development The new legislation requires the establishment of electric vehicle parking and charging stations in an effort towards the Council's Strategic Climate Action plan. This means that new or remodeled apartment buildings must allocate 10% of their parking capacity to electric vehicle charging, and 25% of parking must be EV-ready (infrastructure is in place to install a charger in the future). |

Part of this is a move to crush development; they're arm-twisting through all sorts of methods to try and get cheap shit built to stuff section 8 into, and developers that won't play ball have trouble - they're not allowed to just build all high end stuff. So what will end up happening is nobody getting approved to build anything. They have already gone through multiple multi-year stretches of permits and zoning getting held up all over the place. Ultimately someone has the notion to price out everyone but the Cloud People and have the poors take the train in from outlying areas to do all the janitor type work. |

The lines are a separate issue, until you’re willing to pay for buries lines there’s not much to be done about that. |

I'd be more concerned with the mandate being an edict rather than a market solution. Charging stations will happen just fine on their own if the government stays out of the way other than providing for a regulatory framework for safe "code compliant" installation no different than any other building code. There's money to be made in hosting charging stations and the government getting involved might fuck up that more sustainable approach. Government mandated charging stations will eventually be neglected and go into a state of disrepair. Market mandated charging stations will be well maintained and rationally allocated because they are by definition profitable. The free market should decide this. |
