I still don't understand how Blade was not sufficiently good enough for "black pride" purposes or whatever. Snipes was a total badass, respectable & righteous character, kills the pasty little evil white pussy bad guy, and gets all the ladies. Done.
It's not like Panther is any less of a blacksploitation film. |

I saw a clip of the lead actor for that movie accepting an award and he said something to the effect that the movie represent a great leader building bridges not walls.

Racial identity politics aside, I don’t know why they wouldn’t use a movie that’s historical or at least historically inspired for Black History Month. It seems self-degrading to have to fall back to a work of superhero fiction. But this one will get 10X more seats filled and concessions sold, so instead they’ll be watching a cartoon superhero riding a rhino fighting aliens to celebrate their heritage. Lolwut
ETA: BP was a fairly meh Marval movie, and were it not for the rise of the BLM movement, would be rightfully forgotten and be at roughly the level of Captain America or Iron Man 2...or even 3 (ouch). |
