while the scenery is great, that movie was just lacking in so many ways.

though Tom Petty's cameo is pretty damn funny

I liked it.  Anybody catch Billy Bob Thornton in it. He had about 30 seconds.

I like that movie a lot.

Do I consider it some kind of training film?

I liked it too, having Tom Petty was just a bonus.  To bad he is an anti

The book was better, but the movie does bring up an interesting SHTF topic: "This is why I hate strangers. Are they friendly, or do they want to kill you? Do you say hi, or do you shoot them?"

I like Will Patton, but he was laughable as the bad guy in this movie.  And, the great clamactic battle that was looming towards the end never happened, instead Costner and Patton just rolled around in the dirt as I recall.

Some parts of the movie were ok, I guess, but I'd only give it about a 4 or 5 on the scale.  Not truly horrific, good for a snow storm or something, but certainly not on the level of Waterworld, no siree!
