My brother-in-law has been a staunch conservative as long as I have known him. He works in the IT sector and about 6 months ago, he lost his job as the auto-dealership that he worked for changed ownership. About 4 months ago, he took a job in IT at the school district. Now that he's part of their union and suckling off the government teet, his views have done a complete 180. This goes to show, the left controls their population with handouts.

That's why FBHO was trying to destroy the middle class - so he could get millions more of us addicted to the government cheese and marching in lock step with the rest of the Marxists. |

Well if it makes you feel better, a anti-gun guy I know texted me today saying he wants a handgun. So I'm going to show him the ropes and take him shooting next week. Multiple ways that could play out bro. I would meet him at the gun store, and make sure he passes the 4473 test first. It is Chris Kyle day after all... |

Your BIL was weak-minded and never a true conservative if he switched his views that quickly. I've been a member of unions before and never bought into their garbage. Hated every second of it and every dollar that was stolen from me to support democrap causes. |

School districts are modern indoctrination systems of faculty, staff, and students to liberal ideology.

Hated every second of it and every dollar that was stolen from me to support democrap causes. This was a guy that bitched all the time about the government needing to scale back and stay out of people's lives. Literally HATED government intrusion. Hated unions, always stated that they served a purpose in the 40's and 50's, but now they are just a way to extort companies for benefits for those who are undeserving. Now.....totally flipped.

He's a beta, and I've told him many times
He is a vegetarian because his GF wants him to be lol So whenever we work together I give him shit. Maybe he wants to kill me? I guess we'll find out. |

| Weak minded people flip sides all the time, it's nothing to be concerned with. Irritating that he's a family member, but just about everyone here has stupid, liberal family members. My wife's extended family includes a few so socialist that many here, including myself, would consider them downright communists. |

You do what you have to to keep food on the table. Once you've gone thru a couple of layoffs you tend to adopt a little more flexibility in your life. Just because you end-up having to join the enemy to feed your family, doesn't mean that you have to start thinking like the enemy. I've "slept with the enemy" many times and didn't end-up thinking like that. I just don't buy that a REAL conservative could so quickly adopt the entire progressive platform because he'd been broken down financially. I'll be the first to admit that becoming jobless could make you vulnerable. But still... it sounds like he did a complete 180 in four months. I dunno... I'm 49 and just too stuck in my ways and thoughts I guess. |

My brother was the opposite-he was even President of one of the unions out here.Used to go round and round on the issues.
He took a job with a large international company that was non union, but paid a lot more money.Took a couple years for him to come around. It's like having to de-program someone that was in a cult.

It's probably because we live in Chicago and he finally wants to be able to protect himself. But I'll know forsure when I ask him. Actually I'll text him now and ask lol. |

There's never been much difference between a Conservative and a Liberal. He simply switched up a few issues. Mostly, this. Nine times out of 10, people just vote their self-interest and dress it up with ideology. I happen to be in the group of people that do better the less government does. I vote accordingly. |

Apparently you've never been laid off. I've lost a job and then got hired at a Teamster union job (as referred to above). I didn't start thinking and acting like a Teamster. Hated every second of it and one of the happiest days of my life was when I signed-out of the union. Seriously... are our beliefs, ideals, and core values just a friggin reflection of where our paycheck is coming from? This shit reeks of the "just following orders" nazi mantra.

That is some You misspelled truth. The proof is on display everyday in GD. You're welcome to explain how your extra-Constitutional pet .gov projects and controls are good but some other group's pet .gov projects and controls are bad. |

Yup, very typical. People are only loyal to their next paycheck. Everyone can be bought. Only difference is everyone has their own price.
This was very obvious during WI's recall. Libs/Unions were rallying against the republican governor. Saw many conservatives fold like cheap lawn chairs because they or their spouse was in a union/gov't employee. |

If he were a staunch conservative based on principles, then he wouldn't have changed. What I mean by that was his reason for his views. If someone is a vegan because he believes it is wrong to eat animals, that's a principle whether you agree on his view or not. If someone is a vegan because his current girlfriend is pretty, she's a vegan and dude is p-whipped and just wants to support her views. He is not basing his vegetarianism on principle. |
