| Recently, I have had a hard time on the internet. I had been using firefox, but it started hanging, and I would have to reboot to end the process. I switched to Opera, and it will also start hanging on me. Not as often as with firefox, but still regularly. The opera process will not be running, and it will not be locked up, but no web page will load. I still have connectivity, as I can check my email. But to continue browsing, I have to reboot (which is also taking forever now). It is a Toshiba laptop, running Vista, Zonealrm firewall, AVG antivirus. I have scanned for viruses - none found. I used Registry Mechanic, and it found over 800 errors, but after fixing them nothing improved. Windows says I do not need to defrag at this time. Any ideas? |

The latest update of FF has been screwing up for me. Did you try disabling Zone Alarm? I have already dumped FF and on Opera. It's been more reliable than FF, but still acting up. Allt his started a week or two ago, but I have not made any software or settings changes. It does not hang with any regularity, so I hate to just leave my firewall off while waiting to see if it will screw up again or not. |

I wouldn't worry about leaving your firewall off while testing -especially if you have a router and are behind a hardware firewall. I've had problems before with Zone Alarm not allowing me to connect. I would set it to not launch automatically at start up, reboot and see what happens. |
